Acute and sub-acute stroke lesion segmentation from multimodal MRI [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Acute stroke lesion segmentation tasks are of great clinical interest as they can help doctors make better informed treatment decisions. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is time demanding but can provide images that are considered gold standard for diagnosis.

Surfaceome: a new era in the discovery of immune evasion mechanisms of circulating tumor cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the era of immunotherapies, many patients either do not respond or eventually develop resistance. We propose to pave the way for proteomic analysis of surface‐expressed proteins called surfaceome, of circulating tumor cells. This approach seeks to identify immune evasion mechanisms and discover potential therapeutic targets. Circulating tumor cells (

Renal involvement in leptospirosis: new insights into pathophysiology and treatment

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases
Acute renal failure (ARF) is one of the most common complications of leptospirosis although the causal mechanisms are still unclear. Diverse mechanisms are implicated in leptospiral nephropathy and new data supports the role of peculiar ion transport ...

Rapid spontaneous resolution of traumatic acute subdural hematoma

open access: yesRomanian Neurosurgery, 2019
Introduction: Acute subdural hematoma (ASDH) is the most common type of traumatic intra -cranial hematoma accounting for 24% cases of severe head injuries and caries highest mortality. The mortality rates are seen to be ranging from 40% to 90%, diagnosed

Circulating tumor cells in metastatic breast cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors – a biomarker analysis of the ALICE and ICON trials

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative biomarker analysis, we assessed serial sampling of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with CellSearch in two randomized trials testing immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in metastatic breast cancer. Our data demonstrate a prognostic potential of CTCs, most apparent 4 weeks into ICI therapy.

The Slovene neo-circumflex revisited

open access: yesRasprave Instituta za Hrvatski Jezik i Jezikoslovlje, 2012
Keith Langston disagrees with my account of the Slovene neo-circumflex. He rejects compensatory lengthening as an explanation of the neo-circumflex, primarily on theoretical grounds.

A comparative study of circulating tumor cell isolation and enumeration technologies in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lung cancer cells were spiked into donor blood to evaluate the recovery rates of the following circulating tumor cell (CTC) enrichment technologies: CellMag™, EasySep™, RosetteSep™, Parsortix® PR1, and Parsortix® Prototype systems. Each method's advantages and disadvantages are described.

Reptilings and space-filling curves for acute triangles [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
An $r$-gentiling is a dissection of a shape into $r \geq 2$ parts which are all similar to the original shape. An $r$-reptiling is an $r$-gentiling of which all parts are mutually congruent. By applying gentilings recursively, together with a rule that defines an order on the parts, one may obtain an order in which to traverse all points within the ...
