Aberrant migration and surgical removal of a heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) from the femoral artery of a cat. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A cat was evaluated for an acute-onset of right pelvic limb paresis. Thoracic radiographs revealed normal cardiac size and tortuous pulmonary arteries.

Unilateral Ankle‐Foot Exoneuromusculoskeleton with Balance‐Sensing Feedback for Self‐Help Telerehabilitation after Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This study introduces a hybrid robot that integrates mechanical assistance by musculoskeletons (i.e., soft pneumatic muscle with rigid exoskeletal extensions), neuromuscular electrical stimulation, and vibrotactile feedback in a lightweight wearable mechatronic complex applicable to the paretic ankle–foot poststroke for gait restoration. The system can

Randomized preclinical study of machine perfusion in vascularized composite allografts

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
This study was designed to identify the optimum machine perfusion parameters for preservation of limbs before transplantation, and determine whether this was better than cold storage. Normothermic machine perfusion at a pressure of 70 mmHg (NMP‐70) provided superior preservation to cold storage after transplantation.

Deep venous arterialization in the acute setting for embolic complication after endovascular procedure

open access: yesAnnals of Vascular Surgery - Brief Reports and Innovations
We report a case of a patient that developed acute limb ischemia secondary to atherectomy related embolization that was rescued with a deep venous arterialization (DVA) procedure.

Long‐Term Effects of Xenotransplantation of Human Enteric Glia in an Immunocompetent Rat Model of Acute Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Acute brain injuries are characterized by extensive tissue damage, resulting in debilitating deficits in patients. Despite considerable progress, cell‐based approaches have yet to identify an ideal candidate. This long‐term study explores the use of an untested cell source – human enteric glia – and a non‐invasive administration route – intranasal ...

Does the new vascular management of acute limb ischemia have effective results with lower treatment costs [PDF]

open access: yesMedicinski Glasnik, 2019
Aim To compare hospital costs of acute limb ischemia treatment in two periods of time and to show evidence of long-term repercussions on reducing costs during successful treatment.

A Case of Needle-Directed Pulse-Spray Pharmacomechanical Thrombolysis of Acute Brachial Artery Thrombosis

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Interventional Radiology ISVIR, 2019
Acute limb ischemia is a serious disabling condition. The management options depend upon the patient symptoms and signs of ischemia in the affected limb.
