Acute Motor-Sensory Axonal Neuropathy Associated with Active Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Anticardiolipin Antibodies

JCR: Journal of Clinical Rheumatology, 2001
Acute motor-sensory axonal neuropathy (AMSAN) is an axonal variant of Guillian-Barré syndrome (GBS) that presents with acute ascending quadriparesis. This has generally been described in association with Campylobacter jejuni infections or with anti-ganglioside antibodies. Known cases have shown a slow recovery and a poor prognosis.

Transverse myelitis and acute motor sensory axonal neuropathy due to Legionella pneumophila: A case report

Pediatrics International, 2013
AbstractGuillain–Barré syndrome is a rapidly progressive symmetrical muscle weakness associated with acute inflammatory disease. Transverse myelitis (TM) is the inflammation of the spinal cord characterized by rapidly evolving muscle weakness in the lower extremities, defects in sensory level and sphincter dysfunction.

O-3-02. The Involvement of sensory fibers in acute motor axonal neuropathy (AMAN)

Clinical Neurophysiology, 2018
Acute motor axonal neuropathy (AMAN) is immune-mediated motor axonopathy and the involvement of sensory fiber are controversial. To clarify the involvement of sensory fiber in AMAN, we prospectively investigated the serial changes in sensory nerve conduction studies of the patients with Guillan-Barre syndrome (GBS).

EBV and Concomitant Acute Motor and Sensory Axonal Neuropathy in a Healthy 15-Year-Old Female

Neuropediatrics
AbstractAcute motor and sensory axonal neuropathy (AMSAN) is a rare and severe form of acute axonal injury caused by immune damage to the axonal membrane. AMSAN is an axonal variant of GBS. GBS occurs from immune injury to the myelin sheath, axonal variants of GBS (AMSAN and AMAN) differ in that insult is to the axonal membrane.

A Case of Poststreptococcal Acute Motor and Sensory Axonal Neuropathy

The characteristic of the typical Guillain-Barré syndrome GBS is an ascending symmetrical and demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy. Acute motor and sensory axonal neuropathy AMSAN is a less common variant of GBS. Here, we describe an atypical AMSAN case developed after a beta-hemolytic streptococcal infection.
