Acute triangulations of polyhedra and R^n [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
We study the problem of acute triangulations of convex polyhedra and the space R^n. Here an acute triangulation is a triangulation into simplices whose dihedral angles are acute. We prove that acute triangulations of the n-cube do not exist for n>=4. Further, we prove that acute triangulations of the space R^n do not exist for n>= 5.

Rationale and design of the RIACT–study: a multi-center placebo controlled double blind study to test the efficacy of RItuximab in Acute Cellular tubulointerstitial rejection with B-cell infiltrates in renal Transplant patients: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: Acute kidney allograft rejection is a major cause for declining graft function and has a negative impact on the long-term graft survival. The majority (90%) of acute rejections are T-cell mediated and, therefore, the anti-rejection therapy ...

Peak Quasar Correlation Across the Sky, and in an Earth-Wide Bell Test [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Viewing two astronomical sources at large enough distance and angular separation can assure, by light-travel-time arguments, the acausality of their emitted photons. Using such photons to set apparatus parameters in a laboratory-based quantum-mechanical experiment could ensure those switch settings are independent and fair, allowing a loophole-free ...

Acute Alteration of Plasma Renin Activity by Large Doses of Intravenous Prednisolone [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
Large doses of intravenous glucocorticoids have been used in an attempt to reverse homograft rejection. The intravenous administration of 1 g prednisolone over 1 hr resulted in a significant acute reduction of plasma renin activity in 5 normal subjects ...

Recipient‐derived EDA fibronectin promotes cardiac allograft fibrosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Advances in donor matching and immunosuppressive therapies have decreased the prevalence of acute rejection of cardiac grafts; however, chronic rejection remains a significant obstacle for long‐term allograft survival.

On the hot spots conjecture for acute triangles [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
We show that the hot spots conjecture of J. Rauch holds for acute triangles if one of the angles is not larger than $\pi/6$. More precisely, we show that the second Neumann eigenfunction on those acute triangles has no maximum or minimum inside the domain.

Experiencing discrimination increases risk taking. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Prior research has revealed racial disparities in health outcomes and health-compromising behaviors, such as smoking and drug abuse. It has been suggested that discrimination contributes to such disparities, but the mechanisms through which this might ...

Interleukin 2 production by peripheral blood lymphocytes in allograft recipients during acute rejection episodes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
Interleukin 2 production by peripheral blood lymphocytes in allograft recipients during acute rejection episodes. Inthis study we investigate the relationship between the Interleukin 2 (IL-2) yield produced by kidney allograft recipient's peripheral ...

No acute tetrahedron is an 8-reptile [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
An $r$-gentiling is a dissection of a shape into $r \geq 2$ parts which are all similar to the original shape. An $r$-reptiling is an $r$-gentiling of which all parts are mutually congruent. This article shows that no acute tetrahedron is an $r$-gentile or $r$-reptile for any $r < 9$, by showing that no acute spherical diangle can be dissected into ...

Acute Triangulations of the Cuboctahedral Surface [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
In this paper we prove that the surface of the cuboctahedron can be triangulated into 8 non-obtuse triangles and 12 acute triangles. Furthermore, we show that both bounds are the best possible.
