Turning Unpredictable Biomolecule Adsorption to Controlled Corona Formation: Focus on Carbon Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the protein corona formation onto carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) enhances their functionalities as platforms for cancer theranostics. Here, we reviewed the effects of the intrinsic and acquired properties of CNMs on protein corona formation, the consequent biological and toxicological outcomes, and the strategies to reshape corona formation ...

Acute renal failure and normal blood count: A rare presentation of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia

open access: yesLeukemia Research Reports, 2014
A 10-year-old boy presented with headache and visual disturbance. During work-up in hospital he developed acute renal failure with a maximum creatinine level of 534 μmol/l. Complete blood count was normal.

Unlocking the Potential of MXene‐Based Electrochemical Biosensors: A Review of Biofunctionalization Strategies and Biosensing Principles

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Electrochemical biosensors enable the accurate and timely detection of clinical biomarkers, improving healthcare and precision medicine. MXene nanosheets, a class of 2D transition metal carbides, nitrides, and carbonitrides, are promising materials for developing next‐generation electrochemical biosensors due to their unique physicochemical ...

Acute renal failure in the cardiac intensive care unit – A practical approach to management

open access: yesSA Heart Journal, 2017
The association between cardiovascular disease and acute renal failure (ARF) and acute-on-chronic renal failure is less well defined. In the cardiac intensive care unit (CICU), the presence of ARF imparts a significant mortality.

Defining acute renal failure [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Medical Association Journal, 2011
The initial management of episodes of acute renal failure is often done by clinicians who are not specialists in nephrology. Their efforts may be hampered by several factors, such as deficiencies in our understanding of acute renal failure, and consensus and anecdote forming the basis of much of ...

Cross‐Scale Hierarchical Targeted Delivery System Based on Small‐Scale Magnetic Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article reviews a cross‐scale hierarchical targeted delivery system that integrates magnetic continuum robots and magnetic microrobots. By combining rapid long‐range navigation with precise microscale targeting, the system overcomes key limitations of single‐scale approaches.

Contrast induced nephropathy; recent findings. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Contrast induced nephropathy is one cause of acute renal failure. Contrast induced nephropathy is the third most common cause of hospital-acquired acute renal failure. The incidence of contrast induced nephropathy in the general population is 0.6% to 2.3%

Descending aortic calcification increases renal dysfunction and in-hospital mortality in cardiac surgery patients with intraaortic balloon pump counterpulsation placed perioperatively : a case control study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Introduction: Acute kidney injury (AKI) after cardiac surgery increases length of hospital stay and in-hospital mortality. A significant number of patients undergoing cardiac surgical procedures require perioperative intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP ...

Magnetic Micro‐ and Nanorobots for Precision Thrombolysis: Design Strategies and Translational Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Micro‐ and nanorobots for targeted thrombolysis. This perspective elaborates on the clinical indication of blood clot disorders and current limitations for treatment. As a novel, alternative solution, micro‐ and nanorobots can be used to treat and break down thrombi.
