Acute lumbosacral transverse myelitis

Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, 2013
We report two patients with idiopathic acute lumbosacral myelitis, a rare form of acute transverse myelitis. Both patients developed urinary retention, moderate motor and sensory paresis of the lower extremities, severe sensory deficit in the anogenital region and reduced deep tendon reflexes.

Neuroimaging in Acute Transverse Myelitis

Neuroimaging Clinics of North America, 2011
Transverse myelitis is an acute inflammatory condition. A relatively rare condition, the diversity of causes makes it an important diagnostic challenge. An approach to the classification and work-up standardizes diagnostic criteria and terminology to facilitate clinical research, and forms a useful tool in the clinical work-up for patients at ...

Immunopathogenesis of acute transverse myelitis

Current Opinion in Neurology, 2002
Acute transverse myelitis is a group of disorders characterized by focal inflammation of the spinal cord and resultant neural injury. Acute transverse myelitis may be an isolated entity or may occur in the context of multifocal or even multisystemic disease.

Acute transverse myelitis

Neurology, 1981
There have been few population-based studies of acute transverse myelitis (ATM). Therefore, incidence and population selectivity of this disorder in different regions is not well known. Data on all Jewish patients with ATM throughout Israel were collected for the period 1955 through 1975.

Post-varicella acute transverse myelitis

Infection, 1979
This report of a case of acute transverse myelitis, after otherwise uneventful varicella, further stresses the importance that the possibility of this relatively rare complication should be kept in mind in patients developing a paraplegic syndrome late in the course of the disease.

Neurophysiological studies in acute transverse myelitis

Journal of Neurology, 2000
A systematic evaluation of anterior horn cell, motor and sensory pathways is possible by electromyography (EMG), motor (MEPs) and somatosensory (SEPs) evoked potentials, respectively, which may provide valuable information on acute transverse myelitis (ATM).

Prognostic predictors of acute transverse myelitis

Acta Neurologica Scandinavica, 1998
The role of clinical, MRI and neurophysiological parameters in predicting the outcome of acute transverse myelitis (ATM) is reported.Thirty-one patients with ATM were subjected to clinical, MRI, somatosensory and motor evoked potential studies in both upper and lower limbs and concentric needle electromyography.

Acute transverse myelitis.

The Journal of the Louisiana State Medical Society : official organ of the Louisiana State Medical Society, 1997
Acute transverse myelitis is a relatively uncommon neurological disease in which affected patients exhibit acute dehabilitating symptoms associated with the loss of spinal cord segment function. During January 1996, a 23-year-old black female college student, who had been previously healthy, presented to our clinic with acute onset of symptoms typical ...
