Acute transverse myelitis, a possible vascular etiology
Medical Hypotheses, 1989Seven acute transverse myelitis patients are presented, in whom the course of illness suggests a vascular pathogenesis. In the absence of predisposing risk factors for vascular accidents and such systemic symptoms as occur frequently in vasculitic syndromes, association in hypothesized with isolated angiitis of the central nervous system.

Acute transverse myelopathy (ATM) is a large group from various etiologies including multiple sclerosis, systemic diseases, post-infectious myelopathy, spinal cord infarct and neuromyelitis optica. In about 20% of cases, the etiology remains unknown even after a long-term follow-up. We call these cases "idiopathic ATM".
