Wake Up and Smell the Infected Bees: Volatile Cues of Vairimorpha Infection in Honey Bees
Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.Infection can modify host volatile emissions, yet effects in adult honey bees remain unexplored. Using dynamic headspace sampling and GC × GC–MS, we show that Vairimorpha spp. infection significantly alters the volatile profile of adult worker honey bees over a 14‐day time series, producing stage‐specific shifts in multivariate odour structure.
