The degree of participation concept in ad hoc networks

Proceedings of the Eighth IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications. ISCC 2003, 2004
The paper introduces the novel concept of degree-of-participation (DP) in mobile ad hoc networks. The degree-of-participation concept allows nodes in the ad hoc network to express the level of involvement they are willing to give to the forwarding process. The paper also introduces a DP-based routing scheme for mobile ad hoc networks.

Lexical Pragmatic Adjustment and the Nature of Ad hoc Concepts

International Review of Pragmatics, 2012
According to truth-conditional pragmatics, a word may contribute an ad hoc concept to the proposition expressed, that is, something that differs from the concept the word encodes (the lexicalized concept). In relevance-theoretic lexical pragmatics, ad hoc concepts are treated like a species of concepts proper.

Why it’s hard to construct ad hoc number concepts

2021
Abstract Lexical meanings are routinely adjusted in order to evoke ad hoc concepts. But number words pose a unique challenge. Carston (2002) discusses two relevant interpretative processes in this connection. Broadening (as in metaphorical

Project concept: Design concept of ad-hoc Information Network System for disaster mitigation

2013 International Conference on Advances in Computing, Communications and Informatics (ICACCI), 2013
We have gone through national crises caused by earthquakes and tsunamis. Through these experiences we have established advanced communication systems and advanced disaster medical response systems. However, Japan was devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred on March 11th, 2011.

Virtual circuit switching concept in ad-hoc networking.

2004
This thesis investigates issues of implementing virtual circuit switching in an ad–hoc network. Traditionally, an ad–hoc network uses datagram switching for transmitting a message which is many packets long. Two main challenges for implementing virtual circuit switching in an ad–hoc network are: (1) finding a medium access control (MAC) protocol that ...

XIII-Metaphor: Ad Hoc Concepts, Literal Meaning and Mental Images

Proceedings of the Aristotelian Society (Hardback), 2010
I propose that an account of metaphor understanding which covers the full range of cases has to allow for two routes or modes of processing. One is a process of rapid, local, on-line concept construction that applies quite generally to the recovery of word meaning in utterance comprehension.

Ad Hoc Determination of Geographic Regions for Concept@Location Queries

2009
Textual geographic queries to search engines usually consist of the desired concept and also of one or more terms describing a location, which is often the name of a city, which in turn can usually be grounded with the help of a gazetteer. On other occasions, though, the location refers to a (vague) geographic region and may also be a vernacular ...
