Human Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex Adaptation Training: Time Beats Quantity [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Association for Research in Otolaryngology, 2018
The vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) is the main gaze stabilising system during rapid head movements. The VOR is highly plastic and its gain (eye/head velocity) can be increased via training that induces an incrementally increasing retinal image slip error signal to drive VOR adaptation.

Assessing quality of life in patients with ocular disturbances who underwent surgery for non-functioning pituitary adenoma

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2020
Background: Ocular disturbances play a major role in the clinical course of non-functioning pituitary adenoma (NFPA). Partial or complete loss of sight affects patient quality of life (QoL), leading to increased dependence and poor performance; in ...

Unilateral Adaptation of the Human Angular Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Association for Research in Otolaryngology, 2012
A recent study showed that the angular vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) can be better adaptively increased using an incremental retinal image velocity error signal compared with a conventional constant large velocity-gain demand (×2). This finding has important implications for vestibular rehabilitation that seeks to improve the VOR response after injury.

Smooth pursuit adaptation (SPA) exhibits features useful to compensate changes in the properties of the smooth pursuit eye movement system due to usage.

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Neuroscience, 2013
Smooth-pursuit adaptation (SPA) refers to the fact that pursuit gain in the early, still open-loop response phase of the pursuit eye movement can be adjusted based on experience.

New advances regarding adaptation of the vestibulo-ocular reflex [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neurophysiology, 2019
This is a review summarizing the development of vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) adaptation behavior with relevance to rehabilitation over the last 10 years and examines VOR adaptation using head-on-body rotations, specifically the influence of training target contrast, position and velocity error signal, active vs.

Autolimbal grafting in penetrating ocular injuries with limbal involvement

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2017
Background: A penetrating ocular injury with limbal involvement leads to limbal stem cell deficiency and poor corneal regeneration. Purpose: To assess treatment outcomes of primary surgical repair (PSR) involving autolimbal grafting versus ...

Visual Adaptation to Scattering in Myopes

open access: yesPhotonics, 2021
Myopes exhibit a larger capability of adaptation to defocus. Adaptation produces a boost in visual performance that can be characterized through different metrics.

Regional and central hemodynamics in ischemic optic neuropathy

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2018
Background: As ocular vascular disorders are a major cause of visual loss and affect working-age individuals, they are of particular social importance. Purpose: To investigate visual functions and ocular hemodynamics in ischemic optic neuropathy (ION)
