The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Adaptive cluster sampling based on ranked sets

open access: yesAdvances in Methodology and Statistics, 2011
In many surveys, characteristic of interest is sparsely distributed but highly aggregated; in such situations the adaptive cluster sampling is very useful. Examples of such populations can be found in fisheries, mineral investigations (unevenly distributed ore concentrations), animal and plant populations (rare and endangered species), pollution ...

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Spatiotemporal correlation–based adaptive sampling algorithm for clustered wireless sensor networks

open access: yesInternational Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks, 2018
Energy efficiency is one of the most crucial concerns for WSNs, and almost all researches assume that the process for data transmission consumes more energy than that of data collection.

Improved Unbiased Estimators in Adaptive Cluster Sampling

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B: Statistical Methodology, 2004
SummaryThe usual design-unbiased estimators in adaptive cluster sampling are easy to compute but are not functions of the minimal sufficient statistic and hence can be improved. Improved unbiased estimators obtained by conditioning on sufficient statistics—not necessarily minimal—are described. First, estimators that are as easy to compute as the usual

Two stage adaptive cluster sampling based on ordered statistics

open access: yesAdvances in Methodology and Statistics, 2019
The estimation problem on sparsely distributed populations using adaptive cluster sampling (ACS) is discussed. In the first phase of ACS, two stage sampling is used in which primary and secondary sampling units are selected using simple random sampling ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Estimation of general parameter in adaptive cluster sampling using two auxiliary variables

open access: yesJournal of the National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka, 2019
In this article, exponential ratio type estimators are proposed for general parameter in adaptive cluster sampling. The estimators utilise information on two auxiliary variables in three different situations, i.e.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Adaptive sampling in ecology: Key challenges and future opportunities

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution
Traditional ecological monitoring employs fixed designs, which do not vary over the survey duration. Adaptive sampling, whereby the data already collected informs a sampling design which changes over the course of the study, can provide a more optimal ...
