Lyophilized Synthetic Platelets: In Vitro Characterization and in Vivo Evaluation in Mouse Thrombocytopenia Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Platelet transfusions to treat bleeding complications use donor‐derived platelets stored at room‐temperature, that have a shelf‐life of only 5–7 days due to bacterial contamination risks. Cold‐stored and freeze‐dried platelets are being investigated for extending shelf‐life, but these still have the inherent challenge of donor‐dependency.

GRUBJOIN: An Adaptive Multi-Way Windowed Stream Join with Time Correlation-Aware CPU Load Shedding

open access: yes, 2005
Dropping tuples has been commonly used for load shedding. However, tuple dropping generally is inadequate to shed load for multiway windowed stream joins.

Engineering Microbial Particles for Next‐Generation Biomedical Platforms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microbe‐derived particles (MDPs), which include extracellular vesicles, outer membrane vesicles, inclusion bodies, polysaccharide particles, and virus‐like particles, represent a rapidly expanding category of bioinspired nanomaterials. With their natural origin, intrinsic biocompatibility, and highly programmable functionality, MDPs serve as a ...

Intentional islanding and adaptive load shedding to avoid cascading outages

open access: yes, 2005
System disturbances that involve several interconnected areas across the grid are uncommon, but they occur more frequently than predicted. Some are weather-related events; while some are system initiated cascading events that can be prevented.

Advances and Perspectives in Graphene‐Based Quantum Dots Enabled Neuromorphic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Graphene‐based QDs are zero‐dimensional carbon nanomaterials with pronounced quantum confinement and tunable electronic structures. Herein, we summarize their synthesis strategies and functionalization methods, and highlight their functional roles and operating mechanisms in devices, as well as recent advances in neuromorphic electronics. We anticipate
