A multilevel adaptive mesh generation scheme using Kd-trees

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2009
We introduce a mesh refinement strategy for PDE based simulations that benefits from a multilevel decomposition. Using Harten's MRA in terms of Schroder-Pander linear multiresolution analysis [20], we are able to bound discontinuities in $mathbb{R}$.

Comparison of Wavelets for Adaptive Mesh Refinement

open access: yes, 2020
In the field of Scientific Computing there is a big focus on solving time dependent Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) as efficiently and fast as possible. In order to do so, the PDE is discretized and solved on a mesh at every time step.

Parallel adaptive mesh refinement for electronic structure calculations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We have applied structured adaptive mesh refinement techniques to the solution of the LDA equations for electronic structure calculations. Local spatial refinement concentrates memory resources and numerical effort where it is most needed, near the ...

Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Characterization of Droplet Formation in Ultrasonic Spray Coating: Influence of Ink Formulation Using Phase Doppler Anemometry and Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study explores how machine learning models, trained on small experimental datasets obtained via Phase Doppler Anemometry (PDA), can accurately predict droplet size (D32) in ultrasonic spray coating (USSC). By capturing the influence of ink complexity (solvent, polymer, nanoparticles), power, and flow rate, the model enables precise droplet control

Sparse Adaptive Mesh Refinement

open access: yes
Mesh adaptation plays a central role in efficient numerical simulation of partial differential equations, particularly in regimes where resolving localized features is critical. Classical adjoint-based and optimization-driven refinement strategies, while accurate and principled, are often computationally expensive and difficult to scale in large or ...

Hierarchical Multi‐Material Architectures With Gradient Design for Dynamic‐Range Flexible Tactile Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hierarchical multi‐material TPMS lattices are engineered as flexible tactile sensors by combining soft and stiff elastomeric layers with a conformal conductive coating. The bilayer architecture delivers sensitivity at low pressures while maintaining a broad detectable range under large loads, enabling reliable pressure and vibration monitoring for ...

AN ASSESSMENT OF UNSTRUCTURED GRID FINITE VOLUME SCHEMES FOR COLD GAS HYPERSONIC FLOW CALCULATIONS. doi: 10.5028/jatm.2009.0102135152

open access: yesJournal of Aerospace Technology and Management, 2011
A comparison of five different spatial discretization schemes is performed considering a typical high speed flow application. Flowfields are simulated using the 2-D Euler equations, discretized in a cell-centered finite volume procedure on ...
