Adaptive control for the IOS adaptive optics system
Unconventional and Indirect Imaging, Image Reconstruction, and Wavefront Sensing 2019, 2019Future adaptive optics systems will require advanced predictive control algorithms that mitigate loop latency by forecasting disturbances. In many applications, such as laser communications terminals, synthesizing such controllers is challenging due to the non-stationary nature of the disturbance statistics over long periods.

A laser communication adaptive optics system as a testbed for extreme adaptive optics
Adaptive Optics Systems VI, 2018The Integrated Optical System (IOS) is an extreme adaptive optics system designed for NASA’s Laser Com- munication Relay Demonstration mission. There is a great deal of overlap between the requirements for laser communication AO and high-contrast exoplanet imaging AO systems. Both require very high Strehl ratios with narrow fields of view. This overlap

The GEMINI Adaptive Optics System
Adaptive Optics, 1995The GEMINI telescopes project in an international partnership between the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Canada, Chile, Brazil and Argentina to built two eight-meter astronomical telescopes, one on Mauna Kea, Hawaii and one on Cerro Pachon, Chile. The top science requirement of these instruments is superb image quality.

Adaptive optical equalization for optical communication systems
2023Optical fiber communication systems have the advantages of long-distance transmission and large information capacity over traditional communication systems using copper cables. The signal processing can be performed in the electronic domain and/or the optical domain.

Modeling an Adaptive Optics System
2009In Chapter 1, we discussed methods for numerically simulating the propagation of an optical wave through the atmosphere. The approaches considered allow adequate modeling of turbulent distortion and thermal blooming of coherent optical radiation. However, the development of a numerical model for atmospheric distortions of optical waves is not our ...

Experimental adaptive optics system
Optical Engineering, 1994Experimental results of a new approach to the problem of sharpness function maximization in adaptive optics are presented. The main difference from the ordinary method is in the forming of signals, proportional to the components of the sharpness function gradient, in an optical processor.
