Experimental determination of damping added mass and added mass moment of inertia of a shipmodel1
International Shipbuilding Progress, 1957The damping, added mass and mass moment of inertia of a shipmodel, performing forced heaving or pitching oscillations in calm water, are determined experimentally. The influence of model speed, amplitude and frequency of the motions on these quantities has been studied.

The added-mass coefficients of a torus
Journal of Engineering Mathematics, 1978The generalised added-mass coefficients of a torus in translatory and rotational motion in an inviscid incompressible fluid are obtained via an exact solution of Laplace's equation in toroidal coordinates. Of the six possible independent coefficients three are found to have nonzero, finite and separate values, due to symmetry. These are translation in,

On the Added-Mass of a Pulsating Cylinder
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1970An acoustic-pressure method is used to derive the expression for the added mass of a radially vibrating cylinder in an infinite fluid. The method is shown to yield finite results; whereas the potential flow method yields an infinite value.

Several points of interpretation are reviewed bearing on the celebrated discovery by Darwin (1953) that the added mass for a body translating uniformly in an infinite expanse of perfect fluid equals the drift-volume times the density of the fluid. The discussion focuses on the delicate qualifications needed to secure this equality as a mathematical ...

In this chapter, you will learn about using the Raspberry Pi’s built-in MicroSD card slot, SD adapters for micro SD cards, USB flash drives, USB card readers, and the WDLabs PiDrives made for Raspberry Pi. Depending upon the Raspberry Pi model in use, some USB drives might be connected via a USB 2.0 hub.

Expressions for the classical added-mass coefficients have been calculated for the case of two arbitrary circular cylinders using the dipolar coordinate system. These are then applied to calculate the three nonzero added-mass coefficients of two identical circular cylinders in terms of constants of Jacobian elliptic functions.

Hydrodynamic Added Mass and Damping of the Kaplan Turbine
Volume 6: Fluids and Thermal Systems; Advances for Process Industries, Parts A and B, 2011Kaplan turbine runner rotates in water flow inside an enclosed discharge ring. The vibratory runner motion in the fluid flow induces pressure forces onto the wet runner surfaces with inertia effects conveniently described by the so-called hydrodynamic added mass and damping. These inertia effects influence the wet natural frequencies and the amplitudes.

To realize massive pions, we study variations of the holographic model of massless QCD using the [Formula: see text] brane configuration proposed by Sakai and Sugimoto. We propose deformations which break the chiral symmetry explicitly and compute the mass of the pions and vector mesons. The observed value of the pion mass can be obtained.

Quadrupole mass filters with added hexapole fields
Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, 2010Abstract Conventional mass analysis has been investigated experimentally with six quadrupole mass filters with added hexapole fields; three with added hexapole fields of 4%, 8% and 12% with equal diameter rods, and three with added hexapole fields of 4%, 8% and 12% with unequal diameter rods to remove an added ...

The generalized added mass revised
Physics of Fluids, 2007The reformulation of the generalized or apparent added mass presented by De Wilde [Phys. Fluids 17, 113304 (2005)] neglects the presence of a drag-type force in the gas and solid phase momentum equations. Reformulating the generalized added mass accounting for the presence of a drag-type force, an apparent drag force appears next to the apparent ...
