Insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and AD

Neurology, 2010
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) affects over a fifth of persons over the age of 60 years in the United States.1 The total cost to the US economy is $174 billion a year. Another 35% of persons 60 years and older have prediabetes; thus, prediabetes and T2D represent an enormous public health burden in the elderly.

Numerical Prediction of Vertical Ship Motions and Added Resistance

International Journal of Maritime Engineering, 2017
Along with the development of computer technology, the capability of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to conduct ‘virtual computer experiments’ has increased. CFD tools have become the most important tools for researchers to deal with several complex problems. In this study, the viscous approach called URANS (Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes)

Towards Sybil Resistant Authentication in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

2010 Fourth International Conference on Emerging Security Information, Systems and Technologies, 2010
In Sybil attack, an attacker acquires multiple identities and uses them simultaneously or one by one to attack network operations. Such attacks pose a serious threat to the security of self-organized networks like Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) that require unique and unchangeable identity per node for detecting routing misbehavior and reliable ...

Bacterial resistance to mercury — reductio ad absurdum?

Trends in Biochemical Sciences, 1985
Abstract Mercury-resistance is one of the most widespread of the bacterial resistance determinants, and the bacterial volatilization of mercury from mercuric salts forms an integral part of the circulation of mercury in the environment. Recent data, particularly on the nucleotide sequences of two mercury resistance determinants, have provided the ...

Determination of Total Respiratory Resistance in Health and Disease by Added External Resistance

Chest, 1988
Previous studies have indicated that total respiratory resistance (Rrs) can be measured by addition of an external resistor. In an earlier study, the apparatus used to accomplish this included a multiperforated steel plate. In this study, we sought to improve the device. Details of this are given in this article.

Effect of lithium on the responses to added respiratory resistances

Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology, 1983
IN spite of extensive experience with the use of lithium as a psychoactive drug in manic-depressive disorders, little is known about its effects on the control of breathing.

On the relation of added mass and added resistance due to wall interference

Ship Technology Research, 2018
This paper is devoted to the hydrodynamic interplay of rigid bodies in direct proximity. Emphasis is given to proximity influences on inertia and resistance forces. The numerical study employs an overset grid procedure, which accounts for the mechanical contact of rigid bodies, to investigate contact simulations of a circular cylinder and a sphere with

Slander-resistant forwarding isolation in ad hoc networks

International Journal of Mobile Network Design and Innovation, 2006
This paper focuses on how to isolate attackers that inject packets to cause Denial-of-Service (DoS) in ad hoc networks. Our security analysis shows that current hop-by-hop source authentication protocols only partially achieve the defence goals, although they allow legitimate nodes to effectively identify and discard injected or modified packets.

Hydrodynamic Study on Added Resistance Using Unsteady Wave Analysis

Journal of Ship Research, 2013
It is known that the added resistance in waves can be computed from ship-generated unsteady waves through the unsteady wave analysis method. To investigate the effects of nonlinear ship-generated unsteady waves and bluntness of the ship geometry on the added resistance, measurements of unsteady waves, wave-induced ship motions, and added resistance ...

Added Resistance Analytical Tool Evaluation for JHSS

2008
Abstract : Three numerical simulation codes that compute the added resistance in waves, SWAN1, LAMP2 and VERES, are evaluated using model test data of the Joint High Speed Sealift (JHSS). The added resistance tests were conducted with the Model 5633-3 with the scale ratio of 34.121. This model has the JHSS conventional Baseline Shaft and Strut hullform
