The Added Resistance of Ships in Regular Oblique Waves

open access: yesJournal of the Society of Naval Architects of Japan, 1973
A method for calculating the added resistance of ships in regular oblique waves was developed, based upon Maruo's theory. It is assumed that the velocity potential of fluid motions around the ship's hull is obtained from the conception of strip method.

Low frequency sound attenuation in a flow duct using a thin slow sound material

open access: yes, 2015
We present a thin subwavelength material that can be flush mounted to a duct and which gives a large wide band attenuation at remarkably low frequencies in air flow channels.

Effects of porosity on dynamic indentation resistance of silica nanofoam. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The dynamic indentation behaviors of monolithic silica nanofoams of various porosities are investigated. When the pore size is on the nm scale, as the porosity increases, despite the decrease in mass density, the resistance offered by silica nanofoam to ...

Capillary-gravity waves: a "fixed-depth" analysis

open access: yes, 2002
We study the onset of the wave-resistance due to the generation of capillary-gravity waves by a partially immersed moving object in the case where the object is hold at a fixed immersion depth.

Panel of resonators with variable resonance frequency for noise control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The article focuses on acoustic resonators made of perforated sheets bonded onto honeycomb cavities. This kind of resonators can be used in adverse conditions such as high temperature, dirt and mechanical constraints. For all these reasons, they are, for

Electronic localization in two dimensions

open access: yes, 2003
By an improved scaling analysis, we suggest that there may appear two possibilities concerning the electronic localization in two dimensional random media.

ADDED RESISTANCE IN WAVES OF INTACT AND DAMAGED SHIP IN THE ADRIATIC SEA

open access: yesBrodogradnja, 2015
In this paper the ship added resistance in regular head waves and at different sea states in a certain frequency range at different forward speeds was calculated. Calculations were conducted using hydrodynamic software.

Erosion of gadolinia doped EB-PVD TBCs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Gadolinia additions have been shown to significantly reduce the thermal conductivity of EB-PVD TBCs. The aim of this paper is to further the understanding on the effects of dopants on the erosion resistance of EB-PVD TBCs by studying the effects of 2 ...

Influence of Bow Flare Shapes on Added Resistance in Waves

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Society of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineers, 2010
Added resistance in waves is a predominant component for the estimation of ship speed in actual seas, so that it is necessary to be calculated accurately. The added resistance in waves is influenced by the hull form above water line. However it is difficult to take into consideration the form to the calculation theoretically.

Comparative study of prediction methods of power increase and propulsive performances in regular head short waves of KVLCC2 using CFD

open access: yesInternational Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, 2019
This paper employs computational tools to predict power increase (or speed loss) and propulsion performances in waves of KVLCC2. Two-phase unsteady Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations have been solved using finite volume method; and a realizable k ...
