Prediction of Surface Topography Parameters in Direct Laser Interference Patterning of Stainless Steel Using Infrared Monitoring and Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents an infrared monitoring approach for direct laser interference patterning (DLIP) combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN). Thermal emission data captured during structuring are used to predict surface topography parameters.

Kinetic analysis of reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerizations: Conditions for inhibition, retardation, and optimum living polymerization

open access: yes, 2002
Careful simulations of conversion vs. time plots and full molecular weight distributions have been performed using the PREDICI® program package in conjunction with the kinetic scheme suggested by the CSIRO group for the reversible addition fragmentation ...

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...

Addition-fragmentation kinetics of fluorodithioformates (F-RAFT) in styrene, vinyl acetate, and ethylene polymerization: An Ab initio investigation

open access: yes, 2006
The kinetics and thermodynamics of the addition-fragmentation equilibrium in fluorodithioformate (S=C(F)SR; F-RAFT) mediated polymerization of styrene and vinyl acetate were investigated via high-level ab initio molecular orbital calculations.

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Polymerization-sensitive switch-on monomer for terminal transferase activity assay

open access: yes, 2019
We herein describe a simple but efficient method for the determination of terminal transferase (TdT) activity, which relies on our finding that Fe(III)-quenched boron-dipyrromethene (BODIPY)-ATP is utilized as a switch-on monomer for polymerization and ...

Additive Gaussian Process Regression for Predictive Design of High‐Performance, Printable Silicones

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A chemistry‐aware design framework for tuning printable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for vat photopolymerization (VPP) is developed using additive Gaussian process (GP) modeling. Polymer network mechanics informs variable groupings, feasible formulation constraints, and interaction variables.

Tailored Hierarchical Porous Copper Architectures via Three Dimensional Printing and Pressure‐less Sintering for Next‐Generation Lithium‐Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical porous copper current collector is fabricated via three‐dimensional printing combined with pressureless sintering to stabilize lithium metal anodes. The interconnected architecture lowers local current density, guides uniform Li deposition within pores, and suppresses dendrite growth.

Metal Catalyzed Polymerization of Cyclic Olefins

open access: yes, 2007
We have been interested in polymerization of cyclic olefins using transition metal catalysts. Two important polymerization fashions have been studied, ring opening metathesis polymerization and coordination insertion polymerization.
