Equilibrium adsorption isotherm data for the purine base adenine has been obtained on several prebiotically relevant minerals by frontal analysis using water as a mobile phase. Adenine is far displaced toward adsorption on pyrite (FeS2), quartz (SiO2), and pyrrhotite (FeS), but somewhat less for magnetite (Fe3O4) and forsterite (Mg2SiO4). The prebiotic

On the mutagenic action of adenine
Leukemia Research, 2007The deamination of cytosine and adenine is mutagenic; the deamination of guanine is not. The deamination of cytosine leads to G=C-->A=T point mutation and to G-->A and C-->T transition in the DNA molecule; the deamination of adenine leads to the opposite A-->G and T-->C transition.

Abstract A new, dynamic cycling procedure for total adenine nucleotides (ATP + ADP + AMP) is described. This procedure permits the measurement of adenine nucleotides in TCA extracts of fresh or frozen blood samples without requiring the removal of TCA from extract.

Energetics and metastability of the adenine dication observed in proton-adenine collisions
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2007We present here a study that deals with the correlated fragmentation of a doubly charged adenine molecular target induced by a 100keV proton beam. We have elucidated part of the dissociation dynamics for several channels and have obtained the corresponding kinetic energy released values.

Among three unrelated patients with recurrent 2,8-dihydroxyadenine urolithiasis, two completely lacked adenine phosphoribosyltransferase (APRT) in both erythrocytes and proliferative T cells. The third patient possessed significant enzyme activities in both hemolysates and T-cell extracts at levels comparable to heterozygotes for complete APRT ...

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the determination of flavine adenine dinucleotide (FAD) that depends on the specific reactivation of the apoenzyme of D-amino acid oxidase from pig kidney by this coenzyme. Comparison of the reactivation with a standard solution of FAD is necessary because the Michaelis constant of the enzyme for F AD varies ...
