Mucus Physically Restricts Influenza A Viral Particle Access to the Epithelium

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, Volume 9, Issue 4, April 2025.
The infectious potential of respiratory viruses depends on their ability to navigate through a layer of mucus that serves as a protective barrier in the lung. It is demonstrated that influenza A virus penetration through mucus is significantly limited by the gel's internal microstructure and, to a lesser extent, by adhesive binding to mucin glycans ...

CellOMaps: A Compact Representation for Robust Classification of Lung Adenocarcinoma Growth Patterns [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is a morphologically heterogeneous disease, characterized by five primary histological growth patterns. The classification of such patterns is crucial due to their direct relation to prognosis but the high subjectivity and observer variability pose a major challenge.

The Regulation of Trace Metal Elements in Cancer Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The induction of ferroptosis inhibits tumor growth, enhances anticancer efficacy, and overcomes drug resistance. Recent evidence shows nonferrous metal elements play a role in ferroptosis. This review focuses on how trace metals regulate ferroptosis processes like iron accumulation, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant defense.

Leveraging Organ‐on‐Chip Models to Investigate Host–Microbiota Dynamics and Targeted Therapies for Inflammatory Bowel Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 10, April 15, 2025.
The challenges of studying inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), highlighting limitations of traditional 2D cell cultures and animal models are discussed here. It introduces human intestine organ‐on‐chip (OoC) models as a promising alternative, capable of more accurately mimicking the intestinal microenvironment.
