A methodological approach to assess the ropy character of stirred acid dairy gels based on the measure of adhesiveness

open access: yesJDS Communications
This work aims to evaluate the potential and limits of adhesiveness measurement using a texturometer to assess the ropiness of acid dairy gels for starter selection.

Asymptotic behavior of a free boundary problem for the growth of multi-layer tumors in necrotic phase

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper we study a free boundary problem for the growth of multi-layer tumors in necrotic phase. The tumor region is strip-like and divided into necrotic region and proliferating region with two free boundaries.

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

A mechanical model for guided motion of mammalian cells

open access: yes, 2015
We introduce a generic, purely mechanical model for environment sensitive motion of mammalian cells that is applicable to chemotaxis, haptotaxis, and durotaxis as modes of motility.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Assessing Adhesiveness Levels in a Dysphagia Diet for Older Adults

open access: yesGeriatrics
Background: Viscosity is a common focus in the diet of patients with dysphagia. However, adhesiveness is an equally significant property that can affect swallowing function, even in semi-solid foods with similar levels of viscosity.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

ASSESSMENT OF SOIL COMPACTION UNDER DIFFERENT MANAGEMENT REGIMES USING DOUBLE-CYCLE UNIAXIAL COMPRESSION TEST

open access: yesTerra Latinoamericana, 2014
The impact of wheeled farm machines trafficking on soil compaction has not been well documented in Mexico, particularly in the maize producing area of the Toluca-Atlacomulco Valley, which features a Vertisol soil type.
