Abstract The coexistent phenomenon of deformed and transformed adiabatic shear bands(ASBs) of ductile metal was analyzed using the JOHNSON-COOK model and gradient-dependent plasticity(GDP). The effects of melting point, density, heat capacity and work to heat conversion factor were investigated.

In this study, the synoptic conditions for modes of mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) in South Korea are generalized based on composite analysis. The preferred precipitation region, synoptic patterns, moisture transport, sea surface temperature and thermodynamic and dynamic instabilities are characterized according to four modes: convective cells (CC)

Adiabatic Shear Localization in High Speed Cutting of Hardened Steel
The formation and development of adiabatic shear localization in serrated chips have great significance to study of mechanism of high speed cutting. This paper investigates the theory prediction and experimental verification of the critical cutting speed

Unexpected sea fog in the west coast of South Korea had a huge impact on the transportations in the Seoul–Incheon metropolitan area. We reproduced successfully the formation and evolution of a sea event with a transition of air–sea temperature difference using the Weather Research and Forecasting model.

Development of adiabatic shear band in cold-rolled titanium
The evolution of adiabatic shear localization in commercial titanium subjected to heavy cold rolling was investigated. The evolution of the morphology, microhardness, local shear strain, and local temperature increments were systematically studied and ...

ERA5 hourly 325‐m and 1512‐m (a) convergence and (b) vertical motion (actually pressure change with sign reversed to compare with convergence) over Sable Island around the time of an event. The mist (green) and fog (red) occurrences at the surface station are shown at the bottom of the figures. A 325‐m fitted line convergence was positive for the first

Component Analysis of Adiabatic Shear Band Formed in High Speed Cutting of High Strength Alloy Steel
The component distribution of adiabatic shear banding during high speed cutting(HSC) is important to understand the phase transformation during formation of adiabatic shear band and mechanism of serrated chip formation.

New views of some invariants associated with the Cartesian 2D velocity gradient tensor
Vorticity and divergence of horizontal flow are fundamental quantities in meteorology; both are linear functions of the four elements of the 2D velocity gradient tensor and both are formally unchanged under coordinate rotation. We explore four quadratic functions of the elements that are geometrically invariant in this sense, finding some novel ...

Numerical study of the propagation of an adiabatic shear band
The dynamic propagation of an adiabatic shear band is modellised by numerical simulations. A layer of finite length and finite thickness is submitted to simple shear. After a transient, a steady state is attained in which the shear band propagates with a

Dynamic Versus Diabatic Controls on Atmospheric Variability in a Tropical Aquachannel
Abstract Synoptic‐ to planetary‐scale atmospheric variability in the tropics is a potential source of predictability worldwide. However, current weather prediction models struggle to fully capture this variability. Here, we conduct tropical aquachannel simulations using the ICOsahedral Nonhydrostatic model with horizontal grid spacings of 13 and 5 km ...
