Identification and validation of single-sample breast cancer radiosensitivity gene expression predictors

open access: yesBreast Cancer Research, 2018
Background Adjuvant radiotherapy is the standard of care after breast-conserving surgery for primary breast cancer, despite a majority of patients being over- or under-treated.

Association of high‐dose radioactive iodine therapy with PPM1D‐mutated clonal hematopoiesis in older individuals

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In thyroid cancer patients, high‐dose (≥7.4 GBq) radioactive iodine therapy (RAIT) was associated with a higher prevalence of clonal hematopoiesis (variant allele frequency >2%) in individuals aged ≥50 years (OR = 2.44). In silico analyses showed that truncating PPM1D mutations conferred a selective advantage under these conditions.

Postoperative radiotherapy after conservative surgery for early breast cancer: 5-year results [PDF]

open access: yesArchive of Oncology, 2004
BACKGROUND: Breast conserving surgery followed by postoperative radiotherapy, as alternative to radical mastectomy, has been accepted as an optimal method for loco- regional treatment of the majority of women with early stage of breast carcinoma. The aim

Breast Size Impact on Adjuvant Radiotherapy Adverse Effects and Dose Parameters in Treatment Planning

open access: yesRadiology and Oncology, 2018
Background Breast radiotherapy is an established adjuvant treatment after breast conserving surgery. One of the important individual factors affecting the final cosmetic outcome after radiation is breast size.

Decrypting cancer's spatial code: from single cells to tissue niches

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Spatial transcriptomics maps gene activity across tissues, offering powerful insights into how cancer cells are organised, switch states and interact with their surroundings. This review outlines emerging computational, artificial intelligence (AI) and geospatial approaches to define cell states, uncover tumour niches and integrate spatial data with ...

High LRIG1 expression predicts lymph node metastasis in patients with uterine cervical cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Lymph node status is crucial in determining treatment for women with early‐stage cervical cancer. We demonstrate that high LRIG1 protein expression in primary tumors can predict lymph node metastases. Our findings support further investigation of LRIG1 as a biomarker to improve staging accuracy and guide treatment decisions in cervical cancer patients.

Akt inhibition improves long‐term tumour control following radiotherapy by altering the microenvironment

open access: yesEMBO Molecular Medicine, 2017
Radiotherapy is an important anti‐cancer treatment, but tumour recurrence remains a significant clinical problem. In an effort to improve outcomes further, targeted anti‐cancer drugs are being tested in combination with radiotherapy.

Close Margins and Adjuvant Radiotherapy in Acinic Cell Carcinoma of the Parotid Gland

open access: yesJAMA Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 2018
Importance The precise indications and oncologic effects of adjuvant radiotherapy in acinic cell carcinoma of the parotid gland are not well known, particularly in patients with negative, but close (⩽1 mm), margins without other high-risk histopathologic

NMDAR‐Antibody Encephalitis Diagnosed With Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma: A Case Series

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT N‐methyl‐D‐aspartate receptor‐antibody encephalitis (NMDAR encephalitis) is one of the most common forms of autoimmune encephalitis, with a paraneoplastic relationship described in approximately 38%. Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare hematologic malignancy that is not often considered as the underlying neoplasm in this ...

The role of postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy in local recurrence risk in medullary thyroid carcinoma

open access: yesEndocrine Connections, 2019
The value of postoperative radiotherapy in the treatment of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) has not been unequivocally demonstrated. Therefore our study aimed to answer the question of whether adjuvant radiotherapy showed any impact on the risk of ...
