A Novel Approach to Energy Management in Electric Steelworks

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Feed‐forward neural networks are exploited to estimate electric energy consumptions of the electric arc furnace and ladle furnace processes. The models are used to optimize production schedule so that more energy intensive grades are produced when the cost of energy is lower.

Incremental upper bound modeling of concrete failures in timber‐concrete notched connections

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper introduces a novel theoretical framework for developing incremental upper bound solutions, which is applied to predict the response of two local concrete failures in timber‐concrete composite (TCC) decks with notched connections. The new approach enables a prediction of the capacity at the onset of failure as well as the entire post‐

Experimental and design‐oriented research on fiber reinforced concrete segmental tunnel linings: A systematic review

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract The use of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) in precast tunnel segments is among the most established and representative applications of this material. Over the past two decades, numerous tunnel linings were constructed with partial or total substitution of conventional steel reinforcement by fibers, this yielding to quantifiable benefits in ...

Hunting Admissible Kneading pairs of a Real Rational Map

open access: yes, 2013
The importance of symbolic systems is that they give us the possibility of simplifying some dynamical systems. Our expectations is that our work can help to understand better the behavior, under iteration, of the Real Rational Map, f(x)=(x²-a)/(x²-b), with ...

The AMetric Boundary Admissibility Constraint Map Paper II

open access: yes
This paper establishes the AMetric Boundary as a necessary division between admissible representational structure and illicit metric reanchoring. The boundary marks the point beyond which quantities, measures, probabilities, or gradients cannot be meaningfully introduced without violating admissibility.

Simple and detailed modeling of corrosion‐affected slender shear critical RC beams

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract The corrosion of steel bars compromises both the safety and the serviceability of reinforced concrete (RC) structures. Consequently, reliable tools are required to estimate the detrimental effects of corrosion on the structural response of RC members subjected to transverse loads.
