DISTRIBUTION OF ADRENOCORTICOTROPHIC HORMONE-STIMULATED ADENYLATE CYCLASE IN THE ADRENAL CORTEX

Journal of Endocrinology, 1973
SUMMARY The intra-adrenal distribution of adenylate cyclase was measured in microsections of guinea-pig and rat adrenals. Addition of α-adrenocorticotrophin-(1–24)-tetracosapeptide (α1–24ACTH) in vitro to sections of normal guinea-pig adrenals stimulated enzyme activity in glomerular—fascicular border zone tissue and reticular tissue.

Effect of thyroid hormone on regeneration of the adrenal cortex

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 1964
Albino rats, weighing 120–160 g were used. The first group of the animals served as control; the second group received thyroid per os in a dose of 5 mg/10 g body weight; the third group-6 methylthiouracil in a dose of 10 mg. Total excision of the right adrenal gland and extraction of half of the left one was performed in all animals.

The Action of Corticotropic and Adrenal Cortex Hormones on the Mammary Gland

Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1949
Summary. The action of adrenocorticotrophin and the adrenal cortex hormones on the mammary gland is studied on parabiotic rats. The main findings supporting the view that neither adrenocorticotrophin nor the adrenal cortex hormones are essential for the normal growth and development of the mammary gland are:  In spite of a persistent atrophy of the ...

THE INFLUENCE OF STEROID HORMONES ON THE ENERGY METABOLISM OF THE ADRENAL CORTEX IN VITRO

Journal of Endocrinology, 1954
SUMMARY The action of different steroid hormones on the oxygen consumption of adrenal cortex slices in vitro was investigated. Deoxycorticosterone (DOC), testosterone and dehydroisoandrosterone, and 17-hydroxycorticosterone, were found to stimulate the oxygen uptake rate, while cortisone, progesterone, pregnenolone, androsterone and ...

Hormone-producing tumors of the adrenal cortex

The American Journal of Surgery, 1954
Abstract 1. 1. The present day concepts of the physiologic functions of adrenal cortical hormones are briefly reviewed. 2. 2. Some of the factors concerned with the diagnosis and management of adrenal lesions are discussed. 3. 3. Two cases of hyperfunctioning adrenal cortical adenomas are presented.
