Anatolian ground squirrel (Spermophilus xanthoprymnus) retina: Comparative expression of synaptophysin, NeuN, calbindin‐D28k, parvalbumin, glial fibrillary acidic protein, and Iba‐1 during pre‐hibernation and hibernation

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 309, Issue 2, Page 451-470, February 2026.
Abstract Hibernation induces significant molecular and cellular adaptations in the retina to maintain function under reduced metabolic conditions. This study aimed to investigate the expression of neuronal, synaptic, and glial markers in the retina of Spermophilus xanthoprymnus during pre‐hibernation and hibernation periods using immunohistochemical ...

Associations of Dietary Decanoic Acid Intake With Cognitive Function in the Elderly and the Mediating Effects of Hypertension and Diabetes: An Analysis From NHANES 2011–2014

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
This study included elderly people aged 60 and above in the NHANES 2011–2014 cycle. The research indicated that increased dietary decanoic acid intake was associated with better cognitive function in the elderly, among which diabetes and hypertension were statistically associated with a partial mediating effect, although causality cannot be inferred ...

Association Between Peripheral IL‐6 Levels in the Acute Stage of Stroke and Poststroke Depression: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
This is a meta‐analysis on the relationship between IL‐6 concentration in the acute phase of stroke and poststroke depression. Higher peripheral IL‐6 concentrations in the acute stage of stroke are closely related to the risk of PSD; collecting samples within 1 day after stroke onset and evaluating depression post discharge are recommended.

Neurogenesis and the Epigenetic Landscape: Role of Histone Modifications and Chromatin Remodeling

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
Histone methylation and acetylation modulate gene expression by inducing chromatin condensation or relaxation, which in turn regulates transcriptional activity and impacts neurogenesis. ABSTRACT Aims The purpose of this review is to examine how epigenetic regulation particularly chromatin modification and histone methylation controls gene expression ...
