Genes predisposed to DNA hypermethylation during acquired resistance to chemotherapy are identified in ovarian tumors by bivalent chromatin domains at initial diagnosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Bivalent chromatin domains containing both active H3K4me3 and repressive H3K27me3 histone marks define gene sets poised for expression or silencing in differentiating embryonic stem (ES) cells.

The multifaceted roles of lysosomes in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lysosomes support cancer cell adaptation by integrating macromolecule degradation and nutrient recycling with nutrient sensing, inter‐organelle communication and immune regulation. These interconnected functions can promote tumour growth, stress tolerance and therapy resistance, while also creating context‐dependent vulnerabilities that may be ...

Tumour‐proximal deep serum proteomics identifies biomarkers associated with ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
New biomarkers are needed for early ovarian cancer detection. Ovarian (tumour‐proximal) and peripheral vein serum from healthy women and patients with benign or malignant tumours underwent nanoparticle‐enriched deep proteomics. Ovarian serum yielded more protein identifications and revealed tumour‐reflective signatures.

Serum S100A6 concentration predicts peritoneal tumor burden in mice with epithelial ovarian cancer and is associated with advanced stage in patients.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2009
BackgroundOvarian cancer is the 5th leading cause of cancer related deaths in women. Five-year survival rates for early stage disease are greater than 94%, however most women are diagnosed in advanced stage with 5 year survival less than 28%.

The impact of leukocyte‐associated RNA retention on platelet RNA‐based cancer detection

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Platelets carry RNA signals that may help detect cancer, but platelet samples can also retain RNA from white blood cells. We found that this retained white blood cell signal did not significantly affect machine learning cancer classification, suggesting that the cancer‐related RNA signal in platelets is largely independent of leukocyte‐associated RNA ...

Involvement of Bone in Epithelial Ovarian Cancer: Case Report of an Uncommon Late Metastatic Event

open access: yesCase Reports in Oncology, 2011
Bone involvement is uncommon in epithelial ovarian cancer. In this report, a case of bone metastases from ovarian cancer is described and the potential risk factors for such a rare occurrence are discussed.

A study of ovarian cancer patients treated with dose-intensive chemotherapy supported with peripheral blood progenitor cells mobilised by filgrastim and cyclophosphamide [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Summary We have shown that large numbers of haemopoietic progenitor cells are mobilised into the blood after filgrastim [granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF)] alone and filgrastim following cyclophosphamide chemotherapy in previously untreated

Overcoming platinum resistance by the disulfiram metabolite CuET in novel preclinical models of human carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cisplatin‐resistant cancer cells survive DNA‐damaging platinum‐based treatment yet remain sensitive to CuET‐induced proteotoxic stress. The distinct mechanism of action allows CuET to overcome and eliminate cisplatin‐resistant tumour cells, unless highly expressed metallothioneins (MTs) interfere with CuET, thereby highlighting MT levels as candidate ...

The predictive role of thrombocytosis in benign, borderline and malignant ovarian tumors

open access: yesPlatelets, 2020
Ovarian cancer is a lethal gynecological malignancy. Although CA-125 is commonly measured in women with adnexal mass, it is estimated that it only has a positive predictive value (PPV) of 69% and a negative predictive value (NPV) of 88% for the detection
