Respiratory complex I‐mediated NAD+ regeneration regulates cancer cell proliferation through the transcriptional and translational control of p21Cip1 expression by SIRT3 and SIRT7

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
NAD+ regeneration by mitochondrial complex I NADH dehydrogenase is important for cancer cell proliferation. Specifically, NAD+ is necessary for the activities of NAD+‐dependent deacetylases SIRT3 and SIRT7, which suppress the expression of p21Cip1 cyclin‐dependent kinase inhibitor, an antiproliferative molecule, at the translational and transcriptional

Adverse effects of cannabinoids

open access: yesEpileptic Disorders, 2020
ABSTRACT Cannabidiol is a cannabinoid‐derived product that has recently been approved for the treatment of pharmacoresistant seizures in patients with epileptic encephalopathies such as Dravet Syndrome and Lennox‐Gastaut Syndrome. Short‐term side effects of cannabidiol are well know and well‐documented in the clinical trials that lead to its ...

Classification of acute myeloid leukemia based on multi‐omics and prognosis prediction value

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The Unsupervised AML Multi‐Omics Classification System (UAMOCS) integrates genomic, methylation, and transcriptomic data to categorize AML patients into three subtypes (UAMOCS1‐3). This classification reveals clinical relevance, highlighting immune and chromosomal characteristics, prognosis, and therapeutic vulnerabilities.

The effect of the SAFE or SORRY? programme on patient safety knowledge of nurses in hospitals and nursing homes: a cluster randomised trial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: patients in hospitals and nursing homes are at risk for the development of often preventable adverse events. Guidelines for the prevention of many types of adverse events are available, however compliance with these guidelines appears to be ...

Adverse prognosis gene expression patterns in metastatic castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We aggregated a cohort of 1012 mCRPC tissue samples from 769 patients and investigated the association of gene expression‐based pathways with clinical outcomes. Loss of AR signaling, high proliferation, and a glycolytic phenotype were independently prognostic for poor outcomes, and an adverse transcriptional feature score incorporating these pathways ...

GridFormer: Residual Dense Transformer with Grid Structure for Image Restoration in Adverse Weather Conditions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Image restoration in adverse weather conditions is a difficult task in computer vision. In this paper, we propose a novel transformer-based framework called GridFormer which serves as a backbone for image restoration under adverse weather conditions. GridFormer is designed in a grid structure using a residual dense transformer block, and it introduces ...

Optimal Procurement Contracts with Pre–Project Planning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The paper studies procurement contracts with pre–project investigations in the presence of adverse selection and moral hazard. To model the procurer’s roblem, we extend a standard sequential screening model to endogenous information acquisition with ...

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation Induced by Ciprofloxacin: A Rare Adverse Effect

open access: yesJournal of Pharmaceutical Care, 2020
Despite their adverse effects, fluoroquinolones continue to be commonly prescribed antibiotics. Ciprofloxacin remains the safest with remarkably few adverse effects of all fluoroquinolones.

Boosting Adverse Drug Event Normalization on Social Media: General-Purpose Model Initialization and Biomedical Semantic Text Similarity Benefit Zero-Shot Linking in Informal Contexts [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Biomedical entity linking, also known as biomedical concept normalization, has recently witnessed the rise to prominence of zero-shot contrastive models. However, the pre-training material used for these models has, until now, largely consisted of specialist biomedical content such as MIMIC-III clinical notes (Johnson et al., 2016) and PubMed papers ...
