Angle of progression for predicting second-stage cesarean delivery complications

open access: yesThe Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine
Objective To investigate the correlation between the angle of progression (AOP) and maternal surgical complications following a second-stage cesarean delivery. Methods We retrospectively evaluated singleton pregnancies at term (≥37 weeks) who underwent ...

Engineered Microfluidic Organoid Systems: New Paradigms for Menopause Mechanism Research and Personalized Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review explores the integration of microfluidic technology with organoid systems as an innovative platform for studying menopausea complex multi‐organ condition. By enabling precise simulation of inter‐organ communication and hormone responses, microfluidic organoids offer a physiologically relevant model for investigating menopausal syndrome and ...

Perinatal outcomes in twin pregnancies complicated by maternal morbidity: evidence from the WHO Multicountry Survey on Maternal and Newborn Health

open access: yesBMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, 2018
Background Twin pregnancy was associated with significantly higher rates of adverse neonatal and perinatal outcomes, especially for the second twin. In addition, the maternal complications (potentially life-threatening conditions-PLTC, maternal near miss-

Indole‐3‐Propionic Acid Improves Alveolar Development Impairment via Targeting VAMP8‐mediated SNAREs Complex Formation in Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study aims to evaluate the impact of the tryptophan‐derived metabolite indole‐3‐propionic acid (IPA) on lung development and autophagic flux. IPA alleviates hyperoxia‐induced alveolar arrest by promoting autophagosome‐lysosome fusion via inhibition of VAMP8 phosphorylation, which is suggestive of a promising therapeutic target of BPD.

Maternal Infection and Adverse Fetal and Neonatal Outcomes

open access: yesClinics in Perinatology, 2005
Adverse pregnancy outcomes can follow direct placental, fetal, or neonatal infection, or preterm birth associated with vaginal, cervical, intrauterine, or even nonpelvic infections. These latter infections appear to be associated with the majority of very early preterm births, and may explain some of the long-term neurologic damage associated with ...

Immunological Role of the Maternal Uterine Microbiota in Postpartum Hemorrhage

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2020
Recent metagenomics and microbiology studies have identified microorganisms that are typical of the fetoplacental unit. Considering this emerging evidence, the placenta, uterus, and the amniotic cavity are not sterile and not immune privileged.

Tim1 Deficiency Mediates Gestational Hyperglycemia‐Related Syncytiotrophoblast Dysfunction and Fetal Growth Restriction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hyperglycemia during pregnancy impairs the fusion of trophoblast cells into syncytiotrophoblasts, leading to fetal growth restriction. This impaired fusion is mediated by Tim1 downregulation via hyperglycemia‐induced ROS. Antioxidant therapy during pregnancy promotes syncytiotrophoblast formation by upregulating Tim1 expression, thus alleviating fetal ...
