Field studies of Culex mosquitoes in Tanzania and Kenya: A systematic review motivated by changing Rift Valley fever virus transmission patterns

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
There were 275 studies reporting Culex abundance, 17 of which explicitly stated the motivation for the study was RVFV. Despite most studies being motivated by other topics, there was good coverage of studies reporting mosquito sampling in areas associated with the risk of RVFV outbreaks. Studies were c.

Extended time to maturity in Anopheles coluzzii: Implications of late egg hatch for vector control and transgene fitness

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
The fitness of Anopheles coluzzii mosquito lines (VK strain) selected for early and late egg hatching was compared with each other and a reference strain (Mopti). There was an observed increase in fitness in fecundity and survival among the late‐hatching lines, but no negative effects of selection on fecundity and adult survival were detected.

Tracking malathion resistance in Spanish Ceratitis capitata populations: prevalence of resistance alleles/haplotypes before and after the withdrawal of malathion

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 7, Page 3921-3932, July 2025.
The mutation G328A (R allele) and a novel heterogeneous duplication of the acetylcholinesterase gene (RS haplotype, one of the copies bearing the mutation G328A and the other copy non‐mutated), both accounting for malathion resistance, were widely distributed in Spanish Ceratitis capitata populations when malathion was used (2003–2008). Their frequency
