Medical Fabrics with Non‐Antibiotic, Supramolecular Antimicrobial Coatings: A Preventive Approach to Combat Biofilm Formation and Bacterial Dissemination

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents an antibiotic‐free strategy using medical fabrics coated with supramolecular assemblies of polyarginine and hyaluronic acid. These coatings showed strong antimicrobial and anti‐biofilm activity in vitro and in vivo, achieving major bacterial load reductions, including against MRSA.

Study on Plant Growth and Nutrient Uptake under Different Aeration Intensity in Hydroponics with the Application of Particle Image Velocimetry

open access: yesAgriculture, 2021
Aeration is considered beneficial for hydroponics. However, little information is available on the effects of aeration, and even less on solutions that use bubble flow and their agronomic effects.

Effect of rootzone construction on soil physical properties and playing quality of golf greens under New Zealand conditions : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Applied Science in Plant Science at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
A field experiment was designed to examine the effect of five different rootzone constructions (partially amended sand, silt soil, pure sand, fully amended sand and partially amended plus zeolite sand) and aeration methods (untreated control, HydroJect ...

Light‐Controlled Exposure of Cancer Cells to Reactive Oxygen Species Using Organic Semiconductor Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Spin‐coated films of the conjugated polymer F8T2 (poly (9,9‐dioctylfluorene‐alt‐bithiophene)) generate superoxide at the film‐medium interface, enabling precise delivery of reactive oxygen species (ROS) as visible‐light “ROS patches.” Coated surfaces drive rapid, localised cytotoxicity in MCF7 cancer monolayers under white light, providing a reagent ...

Rheological study of sludge of membranes bioreactors for water treatment: protocol, limitations and link with the filtration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The submerged membranes bio-reactors (sMBR) are more and more visible in the field of waste water treatment. The membrane fouling, that causes a drastic fall of the performances, can be limited by the application of a swarm of bubbles close to the ...

Gas-liquid mass transfer : a comparison of down-and up-pumping axial flow impellers with radial impellers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The performance of a down- and up-pumping pitched blade turbine and A315 for gas-liquid dispersion and mass transfer was evaluated and then compared with that of Rushton and Scaba turbines in a small laboratory scale vessel.

Engineering New‐to‐Nature Biological Pathways for β,γ‐Alkanediol Synthesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
β,γ‐Alkanediols are value‐added chemicals to be used as functional solvents, biofuels, and cosmetic components. This work demonstrates a carboligation‐mediated approach for synthesis of linear chain β,γ‐alkanediols in Escherichia coli, namely, hexane‐2,3‐diol (2,3‐HDO) and pentane‐2,3‐diol (2,3‐PDO). The engineered E. coli cells produce 152.2 mm (17.98

Technological processing waste water using the dressing the ejector system for pretreament [PDF]

open access: yesTehnika, 2017
Slaughter industry produces large amounts of waste water, which endanger and degrade the natural recipients - recipients, given that the waste vode najčešće discharged without any form of treatment or purification.

Efficient Wastewater Treatment via Aeration Through a Novel Nanobubble System in Sequence Batch Reactors

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2022
The aerobic wastewater treatments depend on the aeration. Hence, the size of the bubbles used in the aeration system may play a crucial role in this regard.

Sensitivity Analysis of a Proposed Model for Removal Efficiency of Trihalomethanes (THMs) Using Spray Aeration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Trihalomethanes (THMs) form in drinking water treatment systems as a byproduct of chlorination and are problematic from a public health perspective due to their carcinogenic potential and their potential for additional formation throughout distribution ...
