ABSTRACT Aquaculture intensification is increasingly constrained by high water demand, nutrient‐rich effluents and disease risk, increasing interest in biofloc technology (BFT) as a waste‐recycling, low‐exchange production model. However, BFT performance depends strongly on the carbon source used to adjust the carbon‐to‐nitrogen (C/N) ratio and ...

Abstract The waste activated sludge high‐rate (WASHR) process, developed in our previous study, is used for septic wastewater treatment. This high‐rate contact stabilization pre‐treatment uses typical waste streams found in wastewater treatment plants to reduce a portion of the loadings on the main treatment trains.

Evaluation of the aerobic and anaerobic biodegradability of the antibiotic norfloxacin
The purpose of studying the biodegradability of pharmaceutical compounds is to evaluate their behaviors in relation to the treatment processes generally used in domestic and industrial wastewater treatment plants. The antibiotic norfloxacin was found to be a recalcitrant compound.

Efficient conversion of organic waste to biogas depends on the coordinated optimization of feedstock composition, pretreatment, operational parameters, reactor design, and microbial community dynamics. This review highlights how these interacting factors improve methane yield and process stability, advancing anaerobic digestion as a practical pathway ...

Assessing Vadose Zone Biodegradation by a Multicomponent Gas Transport Model
This study calibrated a gas transport model that uses multicomponent approaches, i.e., the dusty gas model (DGM) and Stefan–Maxwell (SM) equations, to soil gas concentration depth profiles to determine aerobic biodegradation rates of hydrocarbons in ...

Biodegradation of Bisphenol-A in aerobic membrane bioreactor sludge
Bisphenol-A (BPA) biodegradation was studied in a membrane bioreactor under aerobic conditions. The effects of the initial BPA concentration and initial chemical oxygen demand (COD) concentration on BPA biodegradation were investigated. The degradation process followed a first-order kinetic (more than 98% of BPA was removed) with a kinetic rate ...

Factors influencing crude oil biodegradation by Yarrowia lipolytica
Yarrowia lipolytica is unique strictly aerobic yeast with the ability to efficiently degrade hydrophobic substrates such as n-alkenes, fatty acids, glycerol and oils. In the present work, a 2(4) full factorial design was used to investigate the influence
