Lactate Signal: Modulator of Cellular Energy Production and Anabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Compartmentalized lactate signaling provides a spatial framework for understanding how lactate‐rich states are generated, transported, sensed, and translated into biological outputs. This Review integrates extracellular, cytosolic, mitochondrial‐associated, and nuclear lactate mechanisms to explain how lactate shapes metabolic adaptation, immune ...

Determination of Gene‐Level Fitness Contributions Across the Mucin‐Utilization Network of Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Genome‐wide CRISPRi and RNA‐seq resolve how B. thetaiotaomicron converts host mucosal glycans into fitness. The study reveals a layered mucin‐utilization architecture in which capsular polysaccharides constrain surface access, extracellular CAZymes and peptidases show functional redundancy, and intracellular catabolic pathways create discrete metabolic

CLINIMEX Aerobic Fitness Questionnaire: Proposal and Validation

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Cardiorespiratory (aerobic) fitness is strongly and directly related to major health outcomes, including all-cause mortality. Maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max), directly measured by maximal cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET), represents the ...

Mechanochemical Engineered Sulfur Copolymers Onto Group 13 and Related Fillers Through Lewis Acid‐Base Pairing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Green mechanochemical copolymerization was developed for universal interfacial modification of Group 13 and related fillers. By leveraging Lewis acid–base coordination to anchor sulfur‐containing polymers—validated via multiscale characterization and DFT—this versatile method boosts performance across liquid fuels, thermal‐shielding materials, and ...

Relationship Between Aerobic Fitness, the Serum IGF-1 Profiles of Healthy Young Adult African American Males, and Growth of Prostate Cancer Cells

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Men's Health, 2017
The growth of prostate tumors is mediated by the bioavailability of androgens and insulin-like growth factors. This study tested the hypothesis that healthy young adult African American men exhibiting low aerobic capacity (fitness) have serum insulin ...

Polyphosphate Copper Nanospheres Drive Mitochondrial Metabolic Reprogramming via Calcium Phase Separation for Self‐Sensitizing Cuproptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study developed polyphosphate (polyP)‐based nanostructures that enable calcium‐mediated metabolic reprogramming via liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). Released polyP undergoes LLPS with Ca2+, suppressing glycolytic flux and enhancing mitochondrial metabolism effectively.
