The Role of the [2Fe‐2S] Cluster of Escherichia coli IscR in Responding to Redox‐Cycling Agents
Redox cycling agents like phenazine methosulfate (PMS) are known for upsetting cellular redox balance. Here we describe how PMS leads to upregulation of the ISC and SUF Fe‐S cluster biogenesis pathways in Escherichia coli when PMS oxidizes the [2Fe‐2S]1+ cluster of the transcription factor IscR, thereby derepressing the operon encoding ISC and, when a ...

Investigations on in vitro survival and virulence of T. pallidum under aerobiosis. [PDF]
Motility of pathogenic T. pallidum was maintained in aerobic in vitro cultures for several weeks using a special medium. The latter consisted of McCoy's 5a medium supplemented with glutathione, sodium pyruvate, HEPES buffer, gentamycin (garamycin), and fetal calf serum. The virulence of the organisms was lost in 5 to 6 days.

ABSTRACT This study determined the effects of a mixture of sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate (SBPS; 2 L/t fresh matter (FM)) and a formic acid‐based mixture (FASF; 3 L/t FM) on maize silage fermentation, aerobic stability, and short‐term feed intake by goats. Whole‐crop maize harvested at 280 g/kg dry matter (DM) was untreated (CON) or treated with

Climate change is known to affect all levels of biology, setting at risk ecological balance. Among other organisms' groups, aquatic inhabitants, and particularly bivalves, are expected to be influenced to a greater extent owing to their inability to move to more mild temperatures.

Transition of an Anaerobic Escherichia coli Culture to Aerobiosis: Balancing mRNA and Protein Levels in a Demand-Directed Dynamic Flux Balance Analysis. [PDF]
The facultative anaerobic bacterium Escherichia coli is frequently forced to adapt to changing environmental conditions. One important determinant for metabolism is the availability of oxygen allowing a more efficient metabolism.

Antibacterial activity and antioxidant capacity of dairy kefir beverages
Kefir beverages based on dairy substrates show antioxidant and antibacterial properties against emerging bacteria Cronobacter sakazakii and Escherichia coli. Kefir traditionally is based on pasteurised milk and the use of other substrates is unusual.

INDUCTION OF ANAEROBIC PROCESSES IN BAIKAL ENDEMICS EULIMNOGAMMARUS VITTATUS (DYB.) AND E. VERRUCOSUS (DYB.) (AMPHIPODA, CRUSTACEA) [PDF]
The data confirming the ability of Baikalian endemic species Eulimnogammarus vittatus (Dyb.) and E. verrucosus (Dyb.) to activate anaerobic glycolysis under hypoxia are presented. The differences in the degree and the rate of lactic acid accumulation and

Mitochondrial AOX1a and an H2O2 feed‐forward signalling loop regulate flooding tolerance in rice
Summary Flooding is a widespread natural disaster that causes tremendous yield losses of global food production. Rice is the only cereal capable of growing in aquatic environments. Direct seeding by which seedlings grow underwater is an important cultivation method for reducing rice production cost.
