Fatal endocarditis due to Aerococcus urinae
Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 1995Aerococcus species are Gram-positive cocci having Gram-stain characteristics of staphylococci (i.e., form clusters), but biochemical and growth characteristics resembling streptococci and enterococci (i.e., catalase-negative, alpha-hemolytic growth on blood agar). A case of fatal endocarditis due to Aerococcus urinae is presented.

Lymphadenitis Caused by Aerococcus urinae Infection
Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2003Aerococcus urinae is rarely reported as a human pathogen. The pathogenesis of this gram-positive coccus is not fully understood. It has been identified as a cause of urinary tract infections but may be associated with severe infections such as endocarditis and septicaemia. This paper presents a case of lymphadenitis caused by A. urinae.

Aerococcus urinae and Aerococcus sanguinicola, two frequently misidentified uropathogens
Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2010Species belonging to the Aerococcus genus are isolated from the urine and blood of elderly patients suffering from urinary tract infections (UTIs). However, the clinical significance, phenotypic features and antimicrobial susceptibilities of these underestimated and/or misidentified species remain unclear.

Septicaemia due to Aerococcus urinae
Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1994In a case of septicaemia, Aerococcus urinae was isolated from the blood. The patient had undergone operation on the prostate gland. The urine was sterile.

A retrospective chart review was performed on 92 patients from whom 118 isolates of Aerococcus sanguinicola (n = 52) or Aerococcus urinae (n = 66) were obtained from urine cultures between October 2007 and June 2008 to assess clinical presentation and antimicrobial susceptibilities. The mean patient age was 82 (range 24-101) years.

Aerococcus urinae: polyphasic characterization of the species
APMIS, 2005A polyphasic characterization of Aerococcus urinae is presented. In this study the intraspecies relationships between 26 strains of varying geographical origin were examined by phenotypic tests, ribotyping and multilocus enzyme electrophoresis. The results demonstrated two main phenotypic patterns that could be distinguished in tests for hydrolysis of ...

Spondylodiscitis due to Aerococcus urinae: A First Report
Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2003Aerococcus urinae is an uncommon urinary tract pathogen which causes infections predominantly in elderly persons with local and general predisposing conditions. There are few case reports of severe infections caused by Aerococcus urinae among which only 14 cases of endocarditis caused by Aerococcus urinae have been reported. We report the first case of

Spondylodiscitis due to Aerococcus urinae and literature review
Infection, 2018Aerococccus urinae (AU) is a pathogen mainly identified in male urinary tract infections and responsible for bacteremia and endocarditis. To the best of our knowledge, there are only five patients with osteomyelitis due to AU described in the literature.

Clinical significance of Aerococcus urinae: a retrospective review
Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 2005A retrospective chart review was performed on 54 patients with positive urine cultures during a 1-year period to assess the clinical significance of Aerococcus urinae. Based on predetermined criteria, patients were classified into 2 groups: those with urinary tract infections (UTIs) and those who were considered colonized.
