Abstract Background Uropathogen resistance, fluoroquinolone‐resistance (FQR), and extended spectrum beta‐lactamase (ESBL), has been observed to be emerging worldwide with prevalences above recommended thresholds for routine empirical treatment. The primary aim of our study was to determine the prevalence of FQR from a geographically diverse sample of ...

A Rare Case of Infective Endocarditis Caused by Aerococcus urinae. [PDF]
Aerococcus urinae is an alpha-hemolytic gram-positive catalase-negative coccus that typically causes urinary tract infections. It has been rarely implicated in other invasive infections such as endocarditis, bacteremia, peritonitis, meningitis, and vertebral osteomyelitis. There are approximately 50 reported cases of A. urinae infective endocarditis in

The workflow and its performance for discrimination of bacterial morphology and vaginal contamination using Atellica UAS800 are shown. The ability to discriminate bacterial morphology (positive predictive value) was 91% in the bacilli group and 81% in the cocci or polymicrobial group in the training set.

A rare case of Aerococcus urinae native valve endocarditis. [PDF]
Background Aerococcus urinae, was initially considered a commensal of the urinary tract, but there is now increasing evidence for its involvement in urinary tract and systemic infections. A. urinae endocarditis has a high mortality rate and occurs mainly in patients with underlying conditions or presence of extraneous material.

“Tree‐in‐bud” opacities with false‐positive Gaffky score and diffuse aspiration bronchiolitis
We present a case of diffuse aspiration bronchiolitis (DAB) with a false‐positive Gaffky score. “Tree‐in‐bud” opacities detected after aspiration should be considered DAB rather than mycobacterial infection.

The infrequency of urinary tract and blood stream infections caused by Aerococcus urinae is most probably due to the difficulties in the identification of this bacterium using standard microbiological methods.

Aerococcus Viridans: A Rare Pathogen Causing Urinary Tract Infection [PDF]
Aerococci are Gram-positive cocci with colony morphology similar to viridans streptococci. Most often these isolates in clinical samples are misidentified and considered insignificant.
