Calculation of Supersonic Aerodynamic Influence Matrices

Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1961
This paper describes a routine for calculating supersonic aerodynamic influence matrices, which is suitable for the digital computer. The method is first applied to a wing with straight leading edges, streamwise tips and a supersonic trailing edge. Then, an extension is given which enables wings of arbitrary planform (including those with subsonic ...

Progress in Newton-Krylov methods for aerodynamic calculations

35th Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 1997
An efficient Newton-GMRES algorithm is presented for computing steady compressible aerodynamic flows on structured grids. The algorithm uses preconditioned restarted GMRES in matrix-free form to solve the linear system arising at each Newton iteration.

EVALUATION OF THE PRINCIPLE OF AERODYNAMIC SUPERPOSITION IN FORCED RESPONSE CALCULATIONS

2006
The validity of the principle of superposition for forced response analysis is evaluated by its application to a research propfan stage. The counter-rotating propfan features transonic flow conditions and aerodynamic interaction between the blade rows. The computed unsteady aerodynamics are verified by compar- ison with rig measurements.

Magneto-Fluid Dynamics Calculations for Aerodynamics

2007
Abstract : Magneto-Hydro-Dynamics (MHD) or more generally Magneto-Fluid-Dynamics (MFD) offers a potential breakthrough in both hypersonic vehicle design and propulsion. Reductions in both drag and heat transfer and flow control using magnetic fields can be important for enabling a hypersonic vehicle to pass more efficiently and safely through the ...

Study on simulation and calculation of aerodynamic characteristics on airfoils

Science & Technology Development Journal - Engineering and Technology
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has emerged as an indispensable tool for simulating and analyzing the aerodynamic characteristics of aircraft components. This paper uses the open-source software OpenFOAM to determine the aerodynamic performance of a NACA 64008a airfoil.

Investigation into the calculation of aerodynamic damping of structural assemblies

Computers & Structures, 1993
Abstract Methods of calculating the dynamic damping are presented. Various aspects of damping and their effects on tension structures are studied. These aspects are damping systems and their effects on the equation of motion; the influence of air on vibrating structures; calculation of the damping coefficient and the air damping due to a phase lag ...

Definition and verification of a complex aircraft for aerodynamic calculations

24th Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1986
Techniques are reviewed which are of value in CAD/CAM CFD studies of the geometries of new fighter aircraft. In order to refine the computations of the flows to take advantage of the computing power available from supercomputers, it is often necessary to interpolate the geometry of the mesh selected for the numerical analysis of the aircraft shape ...
