Mass-flow sensor using aerodynamic damping
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1991A fluid mass flow sensor uses the effect of aerodynamic drag on a vibrating object. The drag damps the resonance oscillations of the vibrator in an amount proportional to the mass flow. An electronic feedback circuit associated with the mass flow sensor has the effect of allowing for fast response time despite the use of a high Q vibrator and allows ...

Aerodynamic damping in lateral buffeting.
2009Using the balanced cantilever method of erection, the cable-stayed bridge during its critical construction phase resembles a long overhanging cantilever structure. This type of structure is particularly vulnerable to wind-induced buffeting instabilities because of its low natural frequencies and low overall stiffness.

Acrosswind aerodynamic damping of isolated square-shaped buildings
Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 2002Abstract Aeroelastic model tests were performed to study the acrosswind response and aerodynamic damping of isolated square-shaped high-rise buildings. The experimental measurements were compared with response predictions based upon wind loads obtained from stationary pressure model.

Experimental evaluation of aerodynamic damping of tall buildings
Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 1996Aerodynamic damping of tall buildings is evaluated by wind tunnel tests using a stick model. The model is a 1500 scale model of a building. The side ratio of the model is varied in the range 0.33–3, and the aspect ratio is varied from 4 to 6. The aerodynamic damping ratios are evaluated from the wind-induced responses of the model by using the random ...

Resonant Response of Mistuned Bladed Discs Including Aerodynamic Damping Effects
39th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit, 2003A mathematical model is developed to investigate the effects of aerodynamic damping on the maximum amplification factor of mistuned bladed disks. LINSUB, an inviscid linearized unsteady aerodynamic damping code, provides aerodynamic damping influence coefficients that are incorporated into a partial-mistuning model that takes advantage of mode ...

A harmonic balance method for aerodynamic damping prediction in turbomachinery
European Conference on Turbomachinery Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics, 2011The present paper investigates a time-domain harmonic balance method as an alternative to classical time-marching schemes for the stability study of turbomachineries toward flutter. This study is performed in a weak coupling approach, which requires to compute the fluid response to prescribed harmonic motions of the structure.

Aerodynamic Damping Measurements in a Transonic Compressor
Volume 5: Manufacturing Materials and Metallurgy; Ceramics; Structures and Dynamics; Controls, Diagnostics and Instrumentation; Education; Process Industries; Technology Resources; General, 1982A method has been developed and demonstrated for the direct measurement of aerodynamic damping in a transonic compressor. The method is based on the inverse solution of the structural dynamic equations of motion of the blade-disk system. The equations are solved inversely to determine the forces acting on the system. If the structural dynamic equations

Nonlinear Aerodynamic Damping in a Highly Loaded Vibrating Compressor Cascade
Volume 7A: Structures and Dynamics, 2019Abstract A numerical aeroelastic study of a 2D linear compressor cascade based on the non-rotating annular compressor cascade with a NACA3506 profile was performed using a one-way coupled technique (prescribed-motion approach). Subsonic and transonic flow conditions with strong shocks in the blade passage were imposed.

Influence of Wing-Propeller Aerodynamic Interactions on Aeroelastic Damping
Proceedings of the Vertical Flight Society 81st Annual Forum and Technology DisplayThis paper investigates the influence of wing-propeller aerodynamic interactions on the aeroelastic damping of a wing-propeller system. The system is modeled in the Rotorcraft Comprehensive Analysis System using the viscous vortex particle method for the propeller aerodynamics and the uniform inflow model for the wing. The aeroelastic damping
