Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Passive-dynamic wind tunnel tests of the Ø resund Bridge cables [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Large amplitude vibrations have been reported from the Ø resund Bridge especially concomitant with rain events. A novel study of the aerodynamic damping of the cables has been carried out through wind tunnel tests. A configuration has been selected based

Peripheral Neutrophil Activation and Extracellular Trap Formation in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Markers of neutrophil activation are increased in plasma during ALS, and markers of NET formation associate with ALS survival. ABSTRACT Objectives Peripheral neutrophil levels in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) inversely correlate with survival, suggesting a role for neutrophils in disease progression.

Coleman-free aero-elastic stability methods for three- and two-bladed floating wind turbines [PDF]

open access: yesWind Energy Science
An accurate prediction of aerodynamic damping is important for floating wind turbines, which can enter into resonant low-frequency motion. The Coleman transform is not directly valid for the stability analysis of two-bladed floating wind turbines without

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Low Cycle Repetitive Loading of Ti‐6Al‐4V‐Epoxy Composite Lattice Structures for Enhanced Energy Dissipation and Damage Tolerance

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Composite Ti–6Al–4V–epoxy lattice structures are additively manufactured and epoxy infiltrated for cyclic loading. At low lattice volume fractions, hybridization produces synergistic gains in stiffness and energy dissipation. At higher volume fractions, synergy diminishes, although composites still exceed metallic lattices in specific energy ...

Machine Learning Based Sensitivity Analysis of Aeroelastic Stability Parameters in a Compressor Cascade

open access: yesInternational Journal of Turbomachinery, Propulsion and Power, 2021
Aeroelastic instabilities such as flutter have a crucial role in limiting the operating range and reliability of turbomachinery. This paper offers an alternative approach to aeroelastic analysis, where the sensitivity of aerodynamic damping with respect ...

Influence of Geometric Design on Mechanical Performance of Auxetic Metastructure

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Strategic geometric reinforcement transforms auxetic performance. This study evaluates 3D‐printed arrowhead metastructures, revealing that a modified design with local ring reinforcement suppresses premature failure to achieve superior energy absorption and structural efficiency.

Research on the Coupled Bending–Torsional Flutter Mechanism for Ideal Plate

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In order to explore the inducing mechanism of negative damping of bending–torsional coupling flutter, an ideal plate with a width of 0.45 m was taken as the research object.

Research on the Flutter Stability of Bridge Sections Based on an Empirical Formula of an Aerostatic Three-Component Coefficient

open access: yesBuildings, 2022
In order to study the relationship between an aerostatic three-component coefficient (ATCC) and bridge flutter and to quickly evaluate the flutter performance of bridges, we proposed a method based on the empirical formula of the ATCC.
