Abstract : A study is being made of the effect on aerodynamic drag of boundary layer irradiation by radioactive sources. A blow-down wind tunnel and a skin friction drag balance have been designed and constructed. The balance is of the null-position type, and is operated using an automatic control system to maintain the null position of the drag plate.

Aerodynamic Drag of Perforated Plates
Nature, 1957WE have recently conducted wind-tunnel experiments to determine the aerodynamic drag of perforated plates at zero incidence by the wake transverse method. The plates have no protuberances, yet they are aerodynamically rough and give a drag comparable with that of plates covered with protruding roughness of the same size and spacing as the holes.

Prediction of Aerodynamic Drag.
1984Abstract : Drag prediction is the most important and challenging problem in aerodynamics. Experimental, empirical, analytical and numerical approaches, singly and in concert, have addressed this problem with varying degrees of success (and notable failures).

Aerodynamic Drag on Vehicles in Tunnels
Journal of Basic Engineering, 1969The purpose of this study was to investigate the aerodynamic drag on vehicles moving in guideways of varying degrees of enclosure. The reason for this study was that several potential high speed ground transport system concepts involve high speed motion of vehicles in enclosed guideways for significant portions of their travel time.

Reducing the Aerodynamic Drag of Empty Coal Cars
Joint Rail, 2005As part of a DOE-sponsored study, the aerodynamic drag of 1/87th-scale coal cars was measured in a wind tunnel. The goal of the experiment was to measure the difference in drag between full and empty cars so as to determine if drag mitigation efforts are warranted.

Cycling Aerodynamics: The Effect of Rider Position on Aerodynamic Drag
Volume 4A: Dynamics, Vibration and Control, 2013Competitive cyclists seek to maximize their efficiency by minimizing the influence of resistive forces. At the high speeds maintained during competition, aerodynamic drag is the primary resistive force. This paper investigates the influence of a cyclist’s body position using models of aerodynamic drag and elucidates the time benefit of various body ...

Falling Paper Sheets to Investigate Aerodynamic Drag
The Physics TeacherMany physics education papers have tackled the issue of effectively introducing aerodynamic drag (“drag”, henceforth) by analyzing the motion of falling objects in diverse scenarios. However, to the best of our knowledge, no works have taken into consideration the relationship between the falling time and the cross-sectional area of a constant-mass ...
