Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Turbulence-Model Comparison for Aerodynamic-Performance Prediction of a Typical Vertical-Axis Wind-Turbine Airfoil

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
In this work, different turbulence models were applied to predict the performance of a DU-06-W-200 airfoil, a typical choice for vertical-axis wind turbines (VAWT).

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Observations on some transonic wind tunnel test results of a standard model with a T-tail [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Technical Review, 2016
As a part of a periodic health monitoring of the wind tunnel structure, instrumentation and flow quality, a series of tests of an AGARD-C calibration model was performed in the 1.5 m T-38 trisonic wind tunnel of the Military Technical Institute (VTI) in ...

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

Numerical Investigation on the Mechanism of Solid Rocket Motor Instability Induced by Differences between On-Ground and In-Flight Conditions

open access: yesAerospace
A solid rocket motor (SRM) with a high aspect ratio that performs normally during ground tests may experience instability during flight. To address this issue, this study employs the pulse triggering method and the numerical approach of two-way fluid ...

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Influences and Optimizations of Vertical Facades on the Aerodynamic Loadings for High-Rise Buildings

open access: yesBuildings
The architectural facade, including balconies, vertical frames, and sunshades, is widely installed on the surfaces of high-rise buildings, and will affect the wind load and airflow around the buildings. However, current studies mainly focus on local wind
