Rapid Sintering of Porous Organic Polymer Powders Into Mechanically Strong Monoliths for Efficient CO2 Capture

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Spark plasma sintering enables rapid processing of porous organic polymer (POP) from fine powders to a freestanding and mechanically robust monolith. The sintering process retains the CO2 adsorption capacity and CO2/N2 selectivity, making the monolith more suitable as a solid sorbent for practical carbon capture applications.

Liquid metal technology of synthesis of AlOOH anisotropic nanostructured aerogel

open access: yesNuclear Energy and Technology, 2017
New method for production of aerogel nanostructures (using the example of AlOOH aerogel) with involvement of liquid metals is examined. In contrast with conventional sol–gel method for producing aerogels the role performed by the alcohol (aqueous ...

Gas adsorption/desorption in silica aerogels: a theoretical study of scattering properties

open access: yes, 2005
We present a numerical study of the structural correlations associated to gas adsorption/desorption in silica aerogels in order to provide a theoretical interpretation of scattering experiments. Following our earlier work, we use a coarse-grained lattice-

A review on silica aerogel-based materials for acoustic applications

open access: yesJournal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 2021
Silica aerogels are popular in terms of production volume and real-world applications. Although the current market growth rate is driven exclusively by thermal insulation, aerogels may also be attractive for acoustic applications with the potential in ...

Photothermal Macroporous Lignin Cryogels for Off‐Grid, Continuous Atmospheric Water Collection via Interlayer Heat Recovery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Photothermal, macroporous lignin‐based cryogels are engineered to convert sunlight into low‐grade heat. Integrated as stacked beds in a drum‐type device, a thin copper interlayer transfers waste heat between beds, enabling interlayer heat recovery and continuous solar cycling.

Nano-Porous Silica-Aerogel-Incorporated Composite Materials for Thermal-Energy-Efficient Pitched Roof in the Tropical Region

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Silica aerogel possesses an ultra-low thermal conductivity by virtue of its nano-structure. Owing to the fragility of monolithic aerogel, the development and production of aerogel-based insulation materials involve the incorporation of granular aerogel ...

Three‐Dimensional Hierarchical Nanowire‐Networks with Deep‐Focus Tolerance and Adhesion Robustness for Harsh‐Environment SERS Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D nanowire‐network SERS substrate with robust adhesion is developed, featuring pronounced z‐direction optical activity, ultralow detection limit (1.5 × 10−13 M), and excellent signal uniformity (RSD < 10%). Enabled by enhanced light scattering, increased optical density of states, and structural reinforcement, the substrate demonstrates stable, high‐
