Measuring and Fostering Diversity in Affective Computing Research
This work presents a longitudinal study of diversity among the Affective Computing research community members. We explore several dimensions of diversity, including gender, geography, institutional types of affiliations and selected combinations of ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Mistaken Pedal Pressing during Emergency Braking by Analyzing Pedal Behaviors
Affective computing has been used to improve computer usability and user interface by considering user's emotion. There is still ample scope for exploration of affective computing especially for applications in a driver assistance system to ...

Continual Learning for Affective Computing
Real-world application requires affect perception models to be sensitive to individual differences in expression. As each user is different and expresses differently, these models need to personalise towards each individual to adequately capture their expressions and thus, model their affective state.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Predicting cardiovascular disease in patients with mental illness using machine learning
Background Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is twice as prevalent among individuals with mental illness compared to the general population. Prevention strategies exist but require accurate risk prediction.

Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
