Perception and action are tightly linked: objects may be perceived not only in terms of visual features, but also in terms of possibilities for action. Previous studies showed that when a centrally located object has a salient graspable feature (e.g., a ...

From the Affordable Care Act to Affordable Care [PDF]
Health reform is a process, not a destination. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) will not be the last word in health policy any more than were Medicare and Medicaid. The ACA focused primarily on extending insurance coverage. Going forward, policy will need to address 2 areas the ACA pursued less vigorously: continuing to slow the increase in health costs ...

Affordance describes an object or space in terms of the actions made possible for the human in the meeting of a design (or non-design) of anything. Affordance is a key concept across all scales of design, as it allows us to not only understand a site ...

Submicron Metasurface Reconfigured Multiband Smart Windows
This work presents a submicron metasurface reconfigured multiband thermochromic smart window. By integrating subwavelength nanostructures into a Fabry−Perot resonator configuration, it mitigates conventional trade‐offs to simultaneously deliver high luminous transmittance and robust solar heating and radiative cooling modulation capabilities ...

Clusterization‐triggered emission is realized in dilute aqueous solution by introducing imine linkages into cellulose‐based luminophores. Imine functionalization creates O/N‐rich, hydrogen‐bonded clustered microenvironments that stabilize emissive states and restrict molecular motions. Luminescence is tunable by amine type and multiplicity.

Biofunctional Understanding and Judgment of Size
Research has shown that the meaningfulness of the material increases judged size, whereas symmetry decreases size judgments. These findings have been interpreted in terms of information processing, with a greater quantity of information leading to a ...

Polymer‐Redox Interactions Enhance Ferro/Ferricyanide Thermogalvanic Cells
Polyelectrolyte could modify the hydration structure of the redox couple in solution and improve the output performance of thermogalvanic cells, providing new fundamental insight into how electrostatic interactions can be exploited to tailor thermoelectric properties.

The mental affordance hypothesis [PDF]
Our successful engagement with the world is plausibly underwritten by our sensitivity to affordances in our immediate environment. The considerable literature on affordances focuses almost exclusively on affordances for bodily actions such as gripping ...

A family of amorphous palladium‐based multi‐component phosphides nanoparticles, synthesized via a robust one‐step wet‐chemical method, overcoming the immiscibility of different elements and the difficulty in forming a stable, disordered structure. When applied in the electrochemical nitrate reduction reaction, these nanocatalysts effectively suppress ...
