Abstract Resistance of Dutch stocks of African (Clarias gariepinus) and Asian catfish (Clarias batrachus) to channel catfish virus (CCV) was tested. Replicate groups of catfish larvae were challenged by immersion in water containing 105, 104 and 103 TCID50 (50% tissue culture infective dose endpoint)/ml of CCV.

Salinity influence on the early stages of the African catfish

Experiments were conducted to determine the effect of various incubation salinities on the hatching and survival of eggs and hatched fry respectively of the African catfish (Clarias gariepinus). The optimal salinity for the hatching of the eggs ranged from 0–5‰. Above 5‰, hatching was significantly low and no hatching occurred at 8‰ incubation salinity.
