Stress in African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) following overland transportation
Fish Physiology and Biochemistry, 2013Of the many stressors in aquaculture, transportation of fish has remained poorly studied. The objective of this study was therefore to assess the effects of a (simulated) commercial transportation on stress physiology of market-size African catfish (Clarias gariepinus). Catfish weighing approximately 1.25 kg were returned to the farm after 3 h of truck-

MORPHOLOGY OF THE NEUROCRANIUM OF AFRICAN CATFISH
Bulletin Samara State Agricultural AcademyAfrican catfish is a promising object of aquaculture breeding, as it is characterized by its unpretentiousness, rapid growth rate, re-sistance to adverse factors, and has high-quality meat with a high content of protein and microelements. To date, there is little in-formation on the morphology of African catfish.

Salinity influence on the early stages of the African catfish
Aquaculture International, 1998Experiments were conducted to determine the effect of various incubation salinities on the hatching and survival of eggs and hatched fry respectively of the African catfish (Clarias gariepinus). The optimal salinity for the hatching of the eggs ranged from 0–5‰. Above 5‰, hatching was significantly low and no hatching occurred at 8‰ incubation salinity.

The effects of two endogenous steroids on the maturation of the catfish GnRH and the chicken GnRH-II system in the African catfish were investigated. Immature fish (2 weeks of age, which is before sexual differentiation; thus male and female genotypes present) were fed with food pellets containing either testosterone (T), 11beta-hydroxyandrostenedione (

This chapter reviews the fossil record of African catfishes and helps understand their evolutionary history on this continent. The researchers who have described these fossils and the context of their studies are presented, shedding light on the disparity of the information available.

North African Catfish Clarias gariepinus (Burchell)
2017Fast expansion of aquaculture in China largely relies on the introduction and use of non-native species. However, the introduction and use of non-native species may have negative impacts on local ecosystems and societies. Clarias gariepinus has been widely farmed in China after introduced in 1980 from Africa.

PERFORMANCE OF LOCALLY FORMULATED FEEDS FOR REARING OF AFRICAN CATFISH IN TANZANIA
2014Fisheries is an important food production sub-sector, providing almost 20% of the world’s protein supply; however, the trend in fish production from capture fisheries has reached its limits due to overfishing. A study wasconducted to evaluate the performance of two locally formulated feeds as possible replacements for an imported costly commercial feed

Phylogeography of the African catfish,Chrysichthys maurus(Valenciennes, 1839)
African Journal of Aquatic Science, 2003Polymorphism at 19 allozyme loci was studied in 227 individuals of the catfish, Chrysichthys maurus (Valenciennes, 1839), collected from ten populations representing nine different river basins in west Africa. Eleven of the loci studied were polymorphic.

Filter-feeding habit of the African catfish
2013The feeding habit of the African catfishClarias gariepinus (Burchell) was studied by assessing the stomach contents of 419 fish (287 juveniles - 17.1-44.7 cm TL and 132 adults - 55.2-109.0 cm TL) collected between February 2003 and January 2004 in Lake Chamo.
