African horse sickness virus structure
Comparative Immunology, Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, 1994African horse sickness virus (AHSV), of which there are nine serotypes (AHSV-1, -2, etc.), is a member of Orbivirus genus within the Reoviridae family. Both in morphology and molecular constituents AHSV particles are comparable to those of bluetongue virus (BTV), the prototype virus of the genus.

Effects of freezing on African horse-sickness virus
Archiv fr die gesamte Virusforschung, 1968The infectivity of both neurotropic and viscerotropic African horsesickness virus decreased markedly when the viruses, suspended either in tissue-culture medium or phosphate buffered saline, were stored at temperatures between −20° C and −30° C. Using infectious tissue-culture fluids, the inactivation curves of the virus at −22° C and −30° C were ...

Seroepidemiological study of African horse sickness virus in The Gambia
Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1993An indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used for the screening of horse sera from The Gambia for antibodies against African horse sickness virus (AHSV). The AHSV antigen used for coating was semipurified according to the method of Manning and Chen (Curr. Microbiol.

Donkeys as reservoirs of African horse sickness virus
1998Investigations have been carried out to elucidate the possible role of the donkey in the epidemiology of African horse sickness (AHS). These studies have shown that despite the absence of pyrexia or other observable clinical signs, donkeys become infected with virulent AHS virus serotype 4 (AHSV 4) and that they develop a viraemia which can persist for

African Horse Sickness Virus: History, Transmission, and Current Status
Annual Review of Entomology, 2017African horse sickness virus (AHSV) is a lethal arbovirus of equids that is transmitted between hosts primarily by biting midges of the genus Culicoides (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae). AHSV affects draft, thoroughbred, and companion horses and donkeys in Africa, Asia, and Europe.
