Modeling of Reacting Flows in an Afterburner

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2001
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Reacting flows in a gas turbine afterburner is a highly complex phenomenon since it is three dimensional, turbulent, having vitiated air at the inlet. Major design requirements depend to a great extent on the internal aerodynamics.

Afterburners and Variable Nozzles

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1953
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">THIS paper discusses the modern concept of afterburner design, breaking down the various major components and treating, as fully as allowable under secrecy imposition, the problems confronting the design engineer.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">Because an ...

Thermal imaging of afterburning plumes

Journal of Propulsion and Power, 1989
Afterburning and nonafterburning exhaust plumes were studied experimentally for underexpanded sonic and supersonic conical circular nozzles. The plume structure was visualized using thermal imaging and regular photography. Thermal emission by the plume is mainly dependent on the presence of afterburning.

Flow field calculations for afterburner

Journal of Thermal Science, 1995
In this paper a calculation procedure for simulating the combustion flow in the afterburner with the heat shield, flame stabilizer and the contracting nozzle is described and evaluated by comparison with experimental data. The modified two-equationk – ɛ model is employed to consider the turbulence effects, and thek – ɛ –g turbulent combustion model is ...

Study of Afterburning in Solid Rocket Booster Jet: Towards a Model for Afterburning in Large Eddy Simulations

Volume 1D, Symposia: Transport Phenomena in Mixing; Turbulent Flows; Urban Fluid Mechanics; Fluid Dynamic Behavior of Complex Particles; Analysis of Elementary Processes in Dispersed Multiphase Flows; Multiphase Flow With Heat/Mass Transfer in Process Technology; Fluid Mechanics of Aircraft and Rocket Emissions and Their Environmental Impacts; High Performance CFD Computation; Performance of Multiphase Flow Systems; Wind Energy; Uncertainty Quantification in Flow Measurements and Simulations, 2014
This paper focuses on two decisive steps towards Large Eddy Simulation of a solid rocket booster jet. First, three-dimensional Large Eddy Simulations of a non-reactive booster jet including the nozzle were obtained at flight conditions of 20 km of altitude.

On the Question of ``Afterburning'' in Gas Explosions

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1934
The works of David, Brown and El Din, Ellis and Morgan, and Ellis and Wheeler on ``afterburning'' have been reviewed critically and found to contain no conclusive evidence for ``afterburning.'' Experiments have been performed on explosions of hydrogen-oxygen mixtures with different inert gas in spherical vessels of different sizes which show, on the ...

DEVELOPMENT OF FLAME TYPE AFTERBURNER

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1962
<div class="htmlview paragraph">A rather narrow range of exhaust composition must be maintained if a flame-type afterburner is to be used. Assuming such a range of composition, flame-type afterburners are possible. Combustion can be self-sustaining and continuous only with the addition of supplementary fuel or sensible heat.

Afterburn: An Afterword to "The Flying Manuscript"

New Literary History, 2006
"Afterburn: An Afterword to 'The Flying Manuscript'" reflects, in its aftermath, on the seering experience of translating Cixous's essay. Through a close reading of several passages in the text, it seeks to analyze some traits of the Cixousian writing practice as these can best be isolated by the impossible demands that this practice makes on ...

Afterburn(s)

Abstract Burns is one of an elite group of poets who generated their own myths. That myth is made up of units that we might term ‘mythemes’: Burns the ‘heaven-taught ploughman’ who becomes Scotland’s national bard; the loose-living, hard-drinking libertine; the radical, egalitarian revolutionary; the great lover.
