Limits of the Lamendin method in age determination

Forensic Science International, 2001
This study shows that epithelial attachment level, used as age determination criterion in Lamendin's method, is not reliable for adults of either sex above the age of 49 years with periodontal diseases in any quadrant. The underestimation of calculated age increases from 7 to 19 years with chronological age.

Age Determination of the Molars

Medicine, Science and the Law, 1991
It has generally been acknowledged that the estimation of age may have a particular medico-legal significance, and that dental methods can be exceptionally useful (Cameron and Sims, 1973; Song and Jia, 1986a). The authors have studied the method for age estimation by using the theory of quantification (Type 1) and multiple stepwise regression analysis (

The Determination of Fcetal Age

The British Journal of Radiology, 1948
The estimation of the age of a fœtus presents one of the most baffling problems in the whole of Medicine. Particularly is this so in the case of the earlier specimens which are of vital academic interest and are of equal importance medico-legally in cases of abortion following rape or illicit intercourse.

Determining the age of an insect

Parasitology Today, 1985
levels by the time the calves are moved once more to summer pasture, the worm burden is mostly arrested larvae. In this simulation, we assumed there were very few over-wintered infective larvae on the second summer pasture, and so the increase in egg counts predicted for August and September is attributable almost en- tirely to the maturation of ...

Early determinants of the ageing trajectory

Best Practice & Research Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2012
Over the past 250 years, human life expectancy has increased dramatically and continues to do so in most countries worldwide. Genetic factors account for about one third of variation in life expectancy so that most inter-individual variation in lifespan is explained by stochastic and environmental factors. The ageing process is plastic and is driven by

A method for determining the age of a bloodstain

Forensic Science International, 2005
DNA allows for the unambiguous identification of the person from whom a biological sample was derived but provides little information about when the sample was deposited. This information only indicated that the biological material was deposited at the crime scene prior to the collection of evidence.

Sonographic Determination of Gestational Age

The Ultrasound Review of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2005
Appropriate assessment of gestational age is paramount in obstetric care. Making appropriate management decisions requires accurate appraisal of gestational age. Accurate pregnancy dating may assist obstetricians in appropriately counseling women who are at risk of a preterm delivery about likely neonatal outcomes and is also essential in the ...

Stroke Rehabilitation—Is Age a Determinant?†

Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, 1980
ABSTRACT A retrospective survey was made of the average improvement, length of stay, and discharge placement of 180 stroke patients admitted to a rehabilitation hospital. The patients were divided into four age groups: under 55, 55–65, 66–75, and over 75. A grading system was used for evaluating the patient's ability in ambulation and

Infection determinants at extremes of age

Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 1994
The immune defence of the full-term neonate is compromised in several ways. Although adequate numbers of B lymphocytes are present, antibody production may be delayed compared with the adult. Decreased levels of complement components contribute to the impaired opsonization potential of newborn sera and in turn, to impaired chemotactic responses of ...
