Short communication: Manipulation of neonatal leptin profile via exogenous glucocorticoids in beef calves

open access: yesAnimal, 2019
The link between circulating glucocorticoids and leptin in beef calves has not been explored but has been noted in several studies. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of exogenous glucocorticoids given at birth and 1 day of age on serum ...

Dairy calf and replacement heifer mortality on a single intensively managed dairy farm in Jordan: A 3-yearlong study (2016-2018)

open access: yesOpen Veterinary Journal, 2022
Background: Pre-weaning dairy calf and replacement heifer mortality represents significant economic loss, limits genetic improvement and growth of the herd and indicates poor management and animal welfare status on the farm.

The fate of calf perforator veins after saphenous vein laser ablation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
PURPOSEWe aimed to assess hemodynamic changes in calf perforator veins (PVs) after endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) of saphenous veins.METHODSThe series comprised 60 limbs of 41 patients (27 female, 14 male; median age, 43 years [range, 22–78 years]) who

Longitudinal study of calf morbidity and mortality on smallholder farms in southern Ethiopia.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Calf morbidity and mortality are serious constraints in the success of dairy calf production. Thus, the current study was carried out with the objective to estimate the incidence of calf morbidity and mortality and associated risk factors in milk-shed ...

Machine learning-based radiomics to differentiate immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy from limb-girdle muscular dystrophy R2 using MRI

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2023
ObjectivesThis study aimed to assess the feasibility of a machine learning-based radiomics tools to discriminate between Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy R2 (LGMDR2) and immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM) using lower-limb muscle magnetic resonance

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Determinants of Cow-Calf Pair Prices

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, 1995
Cow-calf prices are determined by interaction of many factors. At a particular auction, cow-calf pair prices often had a range of 75% of the mean price.

Early Clinical, Imaging, and Pathological Characteristics of SRPK3/TTN‐Digenic Myopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective SRPK3/TTN‐digenic myopathy was recently established as a skeletal muscle myopathy caused by digenic inheritance. This study characterizes the early clinical presentation of SRPK3/TTN‐digenic myopathy in one previously reported and seven newly identified pediatric patients.

Sertraline Treatment Can Mimic Niemann‐Pick Type C Biomarker Profile: A Diagnostic Pitfall

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Oxysterols (cholestane‐3β,5α,6β‐triol and 7‐ketocholesterol) and N‐palmitoyl‐O‐phosphocholineserine (PPCS) are sensitive biomarkers for Niemann‐Pick disease type C (NPC) screening. However, false‐positive results occur, with a biomarker profile suggestive of NPC despite the absence of pathogenic variants in genes involved in NPC or ...
